1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
We are told here that God created great whales. The Strongs definition for the Hebrew word: God here in part means Ruler or Judge. Created can be used like you were cutting down a tree to make something. We know God created out of the elements. Science tells us all the elements were made in a star somewhere. Then we have the words: "great whales". Great means just that: Large, many, distinguished, important. Whale means dragon, serpent, sea monster for whatever that is worth. THEN we get to the LIVING CREATURE part. Living CHAY means to be alive. No mystory there. But CREATURE means NEPHESH "that which breathes". Now I pulled up a website where they talk about over 100 mammals that depend on the ocean. Oceanography
Now the word Whale only shows up 4 times in the Hebrew in the OT. Although the important word here is NEPSESH because man of course is Nepsesh, he breaths air. Or as science would say man and whales are both mammals. The word fish does show us in verse 1:26. Actually we see the word fish quite a few times in the OT. Of course fish are not Nephesh they are not mammals.
In Jonah the word used is the word for FISH (dagah) not the word for whale (tanniyn). Although the word GREAT (gadowl) is the same in the book of Jonah.
We see the verse before this says:
1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
It makes sense that God created the fish and the fowl at the same time. Birds tend to fly, but really in a way they swim though the waters above like the fish swim though the waters below.
Creature (sherets) here is different, this is more of a creeping. In verse we see that the Nephesh moveth about. As we know the mammals do move about in the ocean. They can go all the way from the North Pole to the Equator. Of course they take the ocean currents. The difference in temperature is 50 degrees. That is why we have air currents and ocean currents. The warm air and the warm water from the Equator is drawn toward the cold poles. Whales can go up to 12,000 miles in a year. Well, we can do that in a day. That is how far I had to travel for the first date with my wife. Only we can jump on a plane and fly so we can get there a lot quicker then to take the current in the ocean.
This is a discussion of what God created on day 5. As I said in another post Gen 2:1 says God was finished with his work. I am a GAP but in support of YEC God could have finished His work this week, even if He began the work millions or billions of years ago. Actually according to Brian Cox the elements were all made in a star that died and exploded. So without these elements there would be no whales or fish in the ocean.
2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Host of them is like a army that marches forth. For the HOST OF THEM to be finished it can take even 12 billion years for their light to get here. When this was written 3500 years ago an army took a while to get to where they were going. They did not get there on the same day like they do now.
This is not an interpretation. We use Science to show the Bible is true. Science changes with the headlines. So we have to be flexable because Science is flexable. The Bible itself does not change and has remained consistant and true for over 3500 years now. The Bible is a consistant standard that we can depend on.
