9/11 Tribute - NYPD

There was a time when we chose to honour the Police. Oh we all knew they weren't perfect when you have over half a million Cops across the nation how could you ever believe such an expectation could ever be totally realized. But here's the thing everyone knew and tried never to forget that when the chips were down and when our world seem near to falling apart it is they who are called upon to have the GUTS, the intestinal fortitude to be there for all and serve to run into places posing great danger to their lives.

On 911 in New York City 23 Police Officers never made it home that day! 23. And after that about 240 died it's said later due to after effects of being on the 911 site. 240 more. Firemen also died in larger numbers.

First responders like these were deemed as the real individuals that should be considered the heros of society.....I wonder have we gone so far from having balance and perspective that we don't think they're worthy still of appreciation that this is still what they are and always will be....HEROES helpers when there is none about? God forbid but what if there was some other type of 911. Wouldn't it be a horribly sad thing that they have to rush in risking life and limb really not even being able to have consolation that anyone really cares?

No matter how many lives they save or people they help doesn't matter??...They'll always be subjected with the present culture disdain that many or some want to heap upon them? Perhaps next time you see a Cop maybe it might be a good thing that you tell them you appreciate their service? The following scripture comes to mind.

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. Prov 12:25

Trump secretly arranged his own little tribute to our 9/11 heroes:

The Trump administration has secretly withheld millions from an FDNY 9/11 health program
The payments were authorized and made by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which oversees the program. But instead of sending the funds to the city, the Treasury started keeping some of the money.

"This was just disappearing," the program's director, Dr. David Prezant, told The News. "This is the most amazing thing. This was disappearing — without any notification."

Prezant said he was docked about half a million dollars each year in 2016 and 2017. Then it crept up to about $630,000 in 2018 and 2019. This year, Treasury has nearly tripled its extractions, diverting $1.447 million through late August, according to Prezant.

Trump figures they are just "losers" and "suckers" for risking their lives to save others. He figured no one would notice if he helped himself to some of the money they deserve.

Oh yes. The officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back 7 times is of the same character as those NYPD who went up the stairs in the Towers.

What are you talking about! All Cops aren't being treated nicely! Cops on the NYPD in massive numbers are retiring and getting out of the force! They're saying anyone who takes this job now is crazy. So you think all Cops now are evil that they don't have the character to risk their lives? If so sorry but you're forgotten what the Police are all about.

There's a huge problem. Some people point the finger at "good cops" who don't report abusive and criminal behavior by the relatively few corrupt cops. But there's a problem. A culture of silence is imposed on all of those officers, and in many departments they can expect retaliation if they do the right thing. And I don't mean someone putting salt in their coffee. They can fear for their lives.

CHICAGO — Inside a cramped and worn courtroom, three white police officers are on trial in connection with the fatal shooting of a black teenager, Laquan McDonald. But these officers never fired their guns. Their crime, prosecutors say, was concocting a story to cover up for a colleague who did.

As prosecutors tell it, Chicago police officers shooed away eyewitnesses after the shooting on Oct. 20, 2014, and then made up a narrative to justify the shooting. They said in official reports that the teenager had tried to stab three officers, and that he had tried to get up from the ground as 16 shots were being fired into him.

The only hitch? Dashcam video footage of the encounter contradicted their account.

Patricia Brown Holmes, a special prosecutor trying the three officers on charges of conspiracy, official misconduct and obstruction of justice, told a judge last week: “Instead of serving and protecting all citizens of Chicago, the defendants tried to protect only one — Jason Van Dyke,” the police officer who was convicted this fall of second-degree murder in the shooting.
Police ‘Code of Silence’ Is on Trial After Murder by Chicago Officer

These guys aren't monsters; they were trapped in a criminal conspiracy by the culture of silence enforced by a relatively few criminals in the department. And so they are going to prison for their failure to do the right thing.

And yes, what they did was inexcusable and criminal. I'm just pointing out that they might have done otherwise, if there wasn't the threat of retaliation hanging over them.

But consider what it looks like on the outside. For every criminal who gets caught, how many murderers get away with it? Why do you think police are so paranoid about the ubiquitous cell phone video, or private security cameras? More and more of them are going to jail or losing their careers because of them.

It's never been easy to be a cop. It's worse now, than it has been in a long time. For a good cop, it's between a rock and a hard place, in many, many departments.

The cop who shot that fleeing man in the back in Kenosha did commit a crime, but he was also the victim of a corrupt police department, found by the state's highest court to have been guilty of lies, fabricating evidence and other corrupt practices.

The answer is not to defund police, it's to go into those departments, and rebuild them from the bottom to the top. Make it dangerous to be criminal, and there won't be criminals in police departments.

It's long past time to stop the endless 911 tributes and remembrances. It's been nearly 20 years and people still act like it was yesterday.
