  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I mean, just the title of this video "God Hates the World" explains enough relaly.

I've noticed how many people trouble with moderate muslims because they feel they aren't doing enough to silence/deal with the fundamentalists in their religion.

Well, my feeling is that every Christian on the planet should be going after Westboro baptist members. I personally don't even call them christians. I'm not necessarily talking about obliteration but kidnapping and indoctrinating them with "Lost-style" methods.

They are really crazy. But I am curious what other christians out there think of these utter loons.

Well, LUCKILY, these idiots haven't gotten a very strong foothold in our society, in any sense; even the most conservative of the conservatives in the U.S. consider these guys to be extremist sociopaths. They don't have the resources to make as big of a negative impact as, say, al Qaeda. They're all bark, no bite, so goes the old adage.

If you're familiar with the Chechen insurgency, I like to compare Fred Phelps and his ilk to Shamil Basayev, minus the resources and the combat expertise.

Interesting that their focus is on how God hates the world. (Why would you want to convert to a religion where the God hates everyone?) They also say, "It's too late." So, the point?

Apparently, only the members of the teeny tiny congregation are going to go to heaven.

Reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode with Burgess Meridith where he tries to figure out how to indicate who all the evil people are. He decides that all of the evil people will be only 3 feet tall. His bird squaks, "Nut" and he feeds her a peanut. At the stroke of twelve, the bird says, "Nut," and his had is a few feet too short to reach the cage.

On another website of Bob Enyarts, people are allowed to use the filthiest language when talking to homosexuals, are verbally abusive, etc. When asked how they feel about Phelps, they say, "He's nuts! We're nothing like him."

Um, yeah.

Quote - christianity is nihilism - nietzsche
Again I can't post the link.. (not written by me)
Nietzsche and Nihilism by Matt Ames
For Nietzsche the troubled logic of Christianity found its root in traditional metaphysical thinking. Beliefs such as beliefs in Platoís forms lead to the establishment of metaphysical thinking, which in turn leads to nihilism. Nihilism results because the highest values are already devaluing themselves through the emerging of the insight that the ideal world is not and is never to be realized in the real world. The obligatory character of the highest values begins to totter. The question arises: Of what avail are these highest values if they do not simultaneously render secure the warrant and the ways and the means for a realization of the goals posited in them? (Heidegger, 66)
In other words, when you set up a world beyond experience, then you create an imaginary place from which to manufacture values that have little or no realistic application within the world of everyday experience. The highest values are not found in the world in which people dwell but in a world beyond which people cannot experience.
Once significant doubt seeps in as a result of a lack of a parallel between sensory and imagined supersensory worlds and doubt enters the meaning that is being applied to the supersensory world, then that meaning becomes vague and meaningless. God itself dwells within this world beyond experience. God is the name for the realm of ideas and ideals. This realm of the supersensory has been considered since Plato, or more strictly speaking, since the late Greek and Christian interpretation of platonic philosophy, to be the true and genuinely real world (Heidegger, 61). We live in an unreal world apart from the glories of the real world which presides above us. The phrase God is dead means this world beyond us, this supersensory world, is without the power to relate to our lives in a manner that bestows us with life bringing meaning. For Nietzsche, metaphysics has come to an end. It can no longer affirm or sanction human conduct.
