  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The great legacy of Wesley & the early Methodists was their belief in 'Scriptural Holiness' or 'Christian Perfection'. This doctrine did not originate with them, (for it is found in the New Testament), but was revived by the Wesley brothers.
Simply stated, they saw that Christ came not only to free mankind from sin's penalty & power, but also sin's presence in the heart. Not only outward sins, but also sin's inward pollution, the principle of sin in the heart.
This setting free from 'indwelling sin' was not a process in time but an instantaneous act wrought by the Holy Spirit in response to total surrender & appropriating faith.
This experience of 'full salvation' was subsequent to conversion and witnessed inwardly by the Spirit.
Unfortunately, this precious doctrine was later jettisoned by most Methodists in the UK and also by the United Methodist Church in the USA & its overseas churches.
Today it is held as truth by the 'Holiness Churches' eg. Wesleyan Church, Free Methodists and the Global Methodist Church.
John Wesley believed that God raised up the Methodist Movement to ' spread Scriptural Holiness throughout the land'.
