Were you raised as a Christian or did you convert later?

As the title says... Were you raised as a Christian or did you convert later?

  • Raised!

  • Converted!

  • It's complicated, I'll explain in a reply...

I was raised an atheist, which basically meant a childhood spent trying to imagine that when we die 'that's it' - more impossible than it sounds - ... leads to staring for ages at tables and thinking that one day you will no longer have the power of vision to see that table, because you will no longer exist.

why is there a 'not-a-christian' option in a christians-only section of the forum?

My family is predominantly Christian. However, to say that anyone is "raised Christian" is incorrect. You can be raised with Christian values and with expectations to become a Christian, but you can't be raised Christian, since being a Christian is a personal decision; it's not hereditary. :D

But to answer your question, for the sake of this topic, I was raised Christian. ;)

I was raised with christian morals and such, and my parents and my grandma used to tell me some things about Jesus, but we almost never went to church or prayed together, and they didn't encourage my so much to become a christian. So I kind of was raised christian, but not really... I became an actual christian when I was 15, before that I didn't really have an opinion, or I didn't think about it...

My parents were both alcoholics and drug addicts. Religion was the farthest things from their mind. God blessed me with my best friend and well if it wasn't for her, and her family and more importantly God, I wouldn't be typing to you today.

I was not raised as a Christian at all. I was raised by atheist parents who didn't want me to have anything to do with Christianity and who openly scorned Christians. In fact, if it weren't for my Christian best friend all the way through high school, I don't think that I would be here today. It's been a very slow, uphill battle with my parents. I can definitely say that I coverted later.

It's complicated. I spent the first five years of my life in China, where there was absolutely zero meaningful exposure to religion. Once I came to the U.S., my family started going to church, but I have no idea how much or little influence that had on my life (probably little). I chose faith in Christ at around age 12, following my parents' conversion and some personal investigation into the faith.

I was raised by my mom. When I was 10 I asked her what religion we were, because I didn't exactly know what religion meant. She told me that it's something I get to choose when I grow up. I started going to youth group when I was 14, and I accepted Christ into my life when I was 17.
