Hi all,
Sunday my mom ordered a Dell PC. I am so happy.....in 3 months, I will be able to keep this computer for myself. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of media player to put on my computer? I want Netscape Radio, but I dont' know if that is the best one out there....

it uses next to no resorces.

and the RIAA dont bother people who dont share files.

I use Winamp 5.2. Its really good. To make it your own true PC, Then Get the software which you want, Not anyone elses. There are so many choices out there in the world.

winamp 5.2 is useless, uses up way to much recources. i have a P4 2.4Ghz, 512mb ram, and it uses 70-90% of my recources. which when im trying to do graphical work its a pain, it may be good when used by itself, but when you want to do other things its useless. i much prefer WMP 9 or winamp 2.91 (which is just as good, if not better, just without the fancy layout).

Wow, that's a bit excessive! Winamp 5 takes up 18mb of RAM for me (with ~4500 songs loaded in a playlist) and hardly any CPU usage. Are you using the crazy visualizations? Because if I enable them then the CPU usage shoots up to about 60-70% depending on the visualization. You can switch to Winamp 2.x-style skins too, which saves a bit of resources.

Anyway, I vote for Winamp as well. Avoid version 3, but the later versions of 2 and 5 work great. Version 5 will play video files (albeit poorly in my experience) whereas 2 won't. If you want to play video files, just use Windows Media Player and grab codecs from an all-in-one package like DefilerPak.

i havnt used it before but probably not. winamp has a great selection of radio stations (thousands)
but by all means give netscape radio a try if you dont like it try winamp.

I have netscape Radio on a 2.2ghz system, 768mb ram and it's bulky to load, I don't even use it anymore for that reason (now that I think of it I think I'm going to uninstall it).....plus, a downside to netscape radio is all the popups that come with it and if you aren't sitting at the computer while it's playing it keeps stopping because it wants interaction to know you are still there, otherwise it won't keep playing. I give Netscape and Netscape Radio a big thumbs down (btw, netscape is owned by aol, BLAH!!!).

Winamp, Coolplayer, or Foobar for music.

BSPlayer for videos.
