• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just started taking it Monday. It makes my heart feel really funny and I did not sleep for the first 2 days at all. I am going to give it a chance though. Are you taking it? If so let me know how it is affects you.

I have been taking 1/2 of the 150 mg dose because it makes me feel very, very irritable when I first take it.

Did you let your Dr. know it makes your heart feel funny?

I just went in to see my doctor yesterday. I've been on Paxil for two years and it isn't working. If I take more, I am a real space cadet. I asked about the Wellbutrin and she told me no. I've exhausted my options. The side affects that you talk about are the same that I had when I tried Zoloft and Lexapro.

She told me if I took Wellbutrin, it would have to be mixed with another drug and she wouldn't do that.

Even though I haven't taken this yet, I know where you're coming from from the other anti-depressants I've taken.

I took it for a long time and to say it did a lot of harm would be an understatement. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm not saying go off of it on your own because I wouldn't recommend that, either, but if you are having problems have your doc switch you to something else. If the doc won't switch you, switch doctors. My doc wouldn't switch me and I ended up in the hospital. I wish I had switched doctors AND I wish I had seen a psychiatrist instead of a family doctor who didn't know what she was doing. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this; on the one hand I feel bad because I don't want to scare people about the drug, but on the other hand, I'd feel worse if I didn't say anything.

I take Wellbutrin 300mg along with cymbalta 60mg and the combo seems to work. I take the wellbutrin in the morning so it doesn't interfere with sleep. I think the cymbalta somewhat counteracts the grogginess from the welbutrin. I strongly suggest seeing a psychriatrist! Most family doctors don't know how to combine and tweak dosages and different meds.

Keep in mind, though, antidepressants effect everyone differently.
I know Zoloft really messed me up, but I know people who were on Zoloft who improved with it.

The Wellbutrin is strange. I get this "rush" and then even out.

I just wish life would be normal for me.

I was on it for a little while at 300 mg before they took me off because apparently if you have an eating disorder it can give you seizures  which would be not so good.

I don't think it did anything for me. I got crazy side effects for the first couple of weeks but then they went away. Increasing my Lexapro to 40 mg did a lot more than putting me on Wellbutrin with it. But yeah, it's different for everyone.

A family doctor.

You should really see a psychiatrist, even if it's just once or twice. Family doctors know a bit about anti-depressants, but psychiatrists are so knowlegable and they totally know what they're doing.

Okay I don't know how much this is going to help but let me tell you my experience on wellbutrin. I started taking wellbutrin about 8 weeks ago (stopped taking it 3 days ago). I started out on 150mg for the first 3 weeks and then moved to 300mg. AT first I noticed very little change, then I noticed that I started not to care about being in social situations as much. I have social phobia to a certain extent. I kept waiting for the drug to kick in and give me the results I had been hearing about. The neatness, clarity, motivation, and hapiness were the main ones I was anticipating for. Well it didn't quite work out for me that way. I got really lazy and just stopped caring about things that usually bothered me before. Like if I didn't go to class or get something done I wouldn't feel dissapointed about it I would just be like o well not going to care. It all ended one night when I had started slacking at work. I work at my mom's business and she just started her website, which I manage. Well she gave me some pictures and info which needed to be posted on the site and I kept postponing it for like 2 days. Finally she went off on me Big time and almost fired me. That night I got everything done and then some. The next day I stopped taking the wellbutrin and decided to go to God for my depression. Wellbutrin is the only anti depressant I've taken but I've tried so many other methods of overcoming depression. Therapy, affirmations, hypnosis, self help books, and computerized CBT. LoL I mean everything....except God. Well I've tried to let God into my heart before but somehow, I would eventually turn to some worldly method of curing depression. So finally I come to this point of putting my life totally in God's hands and stop trying to make my life happen the way I want. Think about it this way. Depression effects the mind. The mind and heart are the spiritual relms of the human body. What better way is there to fight a spiritual defeceincy than to go to Lord. I've been depressed off and on for 6-7 years and am about ready for it to completely end. I'm not saying give up on your therapy or medications, I'm just telling you my experiences. I shall put my life in his hands and he shall guide me to the land of happiness and comfort. I truley believe that.....also there are too many testimonies of people turning thier lives around or getting through depression with the grace of God. Sorry so long but I can really relate to this thread and had to put my two cents in :0).....Good luck with whatever you plan to do and God bless you.......Jacob

Correction, depression affects the hippocampus and the ability of the brain to produce new neurons. The fancy word for this is neurogenesis, with the reduction in neurogenesis there is actualy shrinkage of the hippocampus which is part of the Limbic system, and this system has to do with emotions. Many studies show antidepressents stop this process.

I shall put my life in his hands and he shall guide me to the land of happiness and comfort. Would you encourage someone with cancer or diabetis to stop treatment and "trust in God"?

Update: The Wellbutrin has produced satisfactory results.

I think that what we all need to remember is that medications work differently for everyone. We should not scare anyone who is trying a new medication ,because it could benefit their life. I tried wellbutrin xl and it worked fine, but we need to treat the underlying issues too
