  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I tried....

ok so I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post but I’m so confused lol and lying to myself. So I processed to be Christian forever and have tried and tried again to believe but I just can’t.

I do believe in a god, in spirits afterlife and in right and wrong but i feel like nature is a huge part of it to. I also feel like Christianity was more or less made by men More than god. And believe me I have tried to believe and even researched other religions but have not been satisfied by any of them.

As much as I try and want to be a Christian I just can’t I have tried for years. But it just felt wrong and I know deep down god exists but don’t know what religion is true or what religion I am.

I guess what I’m asking is what am I in terms of religion lol.

You are a Seeker. Which can be good news.....until you stop seeking. Everyone who seeks finds.

May I ask what it is that you are seeking, and why you feel that you haven't found it?

You're asking finite "man", who dies, and returns to the dust from whence he came, for inifinite answers?

Most interesting.

I doubted a lot when I was younger, but faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard in the word of Christ.
That's Romans chapter 10 verse 17
Good luck.

You're doing it wrong if you have to force yourself to believe in religion, which incidentally, are all man-made.

If you believe god exists but are unhappy with existing religious frameworks, then perhaps you might consider creating your own.

I'm curious what caused you to lose faith in Christianity. I don't mean to change your mind of course, because I don't believe in Christianity either.

BTW, I sometimes find it comforting to say the Lord's Prayer. It actually is not Christian-specific. I think a Jew or a Muslim or a Hindu would all be comfortable with the words, and it is familiar to me due to my upbringing. You might give that a try if you want. :)

I agree with RaymondG, your a seeker. And that's a good thing.

As a reply to the first part of your post, it's my belief that first there's Christ and than there's the Church. And it's only rarely that they cross paths.

With all of the things you said you believed and didn't believe, I did not hear you say you believed that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God and that He died for your sins and that you have accepted His Sacrifice for you sins, that you are reconciled to God and have been Baptized.

John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Luke 10:22
All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rom. 3:25
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:5-7
5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7) Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Rom. 6:5
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Gal. 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Mar 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Eph. 2:8-10
8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

So you see, it isn't by nature, it isn't by anything you can do to attain it, it is BY FAITH in what Jesus Christ has already done for you.

Do You Believe?

I'm just curious, why are you actively trying to believe in something that you don't currently believe in? I'm not telling you to change that, but I'm just wondering. Most people don't feel a moral imperative to believe in something if they don't already think there's power behind it.

God is calling you. That is why you are searching. You know that God is real. You can feel it in your heart.

God will guide you. Be strong. Don't let the devil trick you away from God. He knows you are seeking God so will try all ways to make you stop etc.

God bless you

G'day Jared :)

I deal best with specifics.. Your OP is very vague giving a general problem.. So let me ask..

You talked about having "" tried and tried again"" What is the thing you have tried and tried but cannot ?

You say """And believe me I have tried to believe"" What are some of the things you cannot believe or find it hard to believe?

You asked:: """I guess what I’m asking is what am I in terms of religion lol"""

From the post you are a basic Theist.. Someone who believes that God a God exists.. Thats a good basic foundation .. But it has to be built upon. :) It must be terrible to be stuck in that basic unfulfilled position..

..how about just seeing yourself as a religious 'explorer' who isn't quite sure what he is looking for?

I can only speak for myself. I went through something similar during my de-conversion process, which actually took nearly a decade. I had so much of myself invested in the Christian religion that it became hard for me to believe that I could actually de-convert and go elsewhere and find God.

Maybe you are not "seeking" what is really out there. God is Love and if you find Godly type Love you find the Christian God. Some times you have to see Love being unconditionally expressed in a tragic situation which you do not find in a church building.

as others have mentioned it's ok to be a seeker. it's a good path, but can be quite difficult. it's easy to be a Christian or a Buddhist, etc. Being a seeker requires patience and is often a lonely road, but I think it is the path that can ultimately lead one to truth.
