Why is it that I only feel like Jesus is real when its late at night and I'm a feeling sleepy? I just don't understand this.
During the day I don't really think about God and just carry on in my sinful ways. Then come night-time I feel remorseful about things.
It's weird.

It might be when you are tired that you let down your guard and "hear" that still small voice (Holy Spirit) convicting you of your sin. It took me a long time to understand that my conscience and the shame I felt were intended to bring me to God and change my behavior.

When i am weak the Spirit is strong. When i am quiet, I can hear. When i am alone with God His voice is louder. When there is less of me there is more of Him.

Some nights I think of a solution to something or realize something I would otherwise have missed or ignored. I feel like my thoughts those nights become more than just the ordinary when I am conversing with God and I finally let go of all the things that captured my attention during the day. I am therefore more receptive to what God might have been trying to tell me for some time. I was just too preoccupied with my own ideas to listen.

Perhaps what you describe is something like this?

When you are at home, late at night, while all is quiet, and you can truly relax, only then can you really hear yourself from within.

During the day, when you are out, working, shopping, dealing with the world in general, the world can cast it's inflluence on you. The distractions of televisions, newspapers, people talking about war, about poverty, a terrible economy, etc., etc., get you so caught up in worldy influence, it draws you away from your true self.

If I may suggest something that could help; each night, while you are relaxing, come up with a thought or idea for the following day. Something short and simple that rings true in your heart and encourages you to be better than you were the day before. Write it down on a slip of paper, and carry it with you throughout the following day. Refer to it often.

This way, instead of looking back at your shortcomings, you can look forward to your growth.

people have certain times that they spend with God. i actaully feel the same exact way, thats why i like reading the scriptures at night, but you should still be with Him throughtout the whole day.

Wow, it's actually good! You have a sensitive soul that loves God, but out of habit you sin, and it saddens your conscience.
Know that if you have such remorse (which is quite uncomfortable), the opposite is also possible -- incredible peace and joy that is sweeter and dearer than any thing this earth can give you. What you need to do is just try your best and do God's will. Then you'll see that the Kingdom of God is indeed within you. Right now God is showing you Hell within...


One advice. Say this prayer over and over during the day. You can wisper it: Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Say it once, and then again, and again. Feel how it pours a healing oitment over your aching soul. After a while you won't be able to live without the sweetest name of Jesus. Warnings: do not accept any thoughts, visions, feelings, becuase the devil hates it when we pray and will try to confuse and deceive you. Just concentrate on the meaning of the words, talk to God like a person nearby with humility, and ignore all the crafts of the devil, he's not strong against the most powerful name of Jesus. You can do this also at a certain time, for example, at night when you have those remorse periods, for 5-10 min (if you don't want to mumble something infront of others all day long). If you feel like you don't want to stop, DON'T! Keep going! This might bring tears, they're good.

About repeatative prayer:
In Matthew 29 we read about Jesus praing to the Father the same thing three times.

The Jesus Prayer (this is what it's called) is ancient practice. This prayer helps you remember God all day and keep you from sin. It also brings the Kingdom of Heaven into your heart, gives much satisfaction and peace to the soul. It's powerful enough to fight the devil and help us withstand temptation. All its power, of course, comes from God. These are not all wonderful fruits of the Jesus prayer, however.

Forgive me. Lord have mercy on me.

This is a good thing happening to you at night. Most people do not even have a conscience. Let God speak to you during this time.

Along with what people are saying about facing your inner self when distractions are gone, I know a lot of solid Christians who say they "are awakened" each night at the same time, often 3:00, because they
were prompted to pray... and they have found that taking it seriously really pays off for them... they are much more focused and feel that their prayers accomplish more.

I find that I am much more alert when I am between sleep and wake. My spirit is alive, I feel the presence of God! My body (carnal, the flesh, sinful) sleeps; my spirit (that which never dies!) is wide awake and whatever I was praying about seems to go straight to the throne of God! How wonderful that you feel this way! God is calling you and I am confident that you will come to Him soon! I willl pray for it to be so!
