• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Well, this was a weird week. I am getting to know my new sponsor, which is always interesting. I also got a new dog, which I had been praying for months for. I have needed an exercise partner, and this little guy is perfect for that.

On the down side, someone stole my petunia hanging plant from my garden the other day. Talk about feeling violated. Then, today, one of my darling students defaced my hooded sweatshirt from Temple University, where I earned my Masters in Social Work, with a permanent marker. The picture they drew was obscene. I actually feel hurt and angry.

So, I am hoping I find out who the culprit was, so I can get some money out of them for replacing it. I also want to give them such a kick in the butt it's not funny.

I saw my psychiatrist this afternoon, and discussed my relapse last week. He commended me for only having one day of relapse. He also reminded me that I would always struggle with the temptation to act out my emotions.

Wow...that is a weird sort of week...stealing petunias and drawing obscene pictures on sweatshirts? Massive bummer. Just pray that you say the right things in the situation with the student drawing on your shirt...God's words will disarm the student and could draw the two of you much closer together...I know how hard it can be to say the right things when I feel hurt and angry and like someone attempted to really stab into my soul somehow. Feels like there's always something going on huh?

I already know what I am going to do. It will not involve any anger being expressed in any way other than words said appropriately. I am very professional when I am dealing with kids acting stupid. But, I am not going to lie to them and not explain how I feel about the destruction of something that I have had as a souvenir of my graduate work. But, there will be consequences, and I will contact the parents and insist on being financially compensated for the damage to my property, as it is irreplaceable. I will also speak with the disciplinarian about it as well.

I just am so saddened because I am finally teaching in the best school in the city. I have been in much worse schools, where such things occur regularly. I really love these students, and feel extremely violated as a result.

You have such a good heart Trish. You obviously have the right moves in place. They do need to face the consequences, they can't expect not to, otherwise things will escalate (whether around you or in their lives in general). People who get off scot-free just continue those behaviors. Be sure to explain that you are very hurt to the student, as it may help them to see that it isn't just that you are the boss and they must be punished.
