  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Who (specifically) are you categorizing as "they" when you say "they offered him up to us"? AFAIK "they" are his victims who had the courage to come forward and offer to testify against him.

Are we going to pretend that Hollywood doesn't have the power to squelch a couple of laypersons who want to testify against one of the most powerful producers?

Remember how people treated Rose Mcgowan? She was ridiculed for speaking out because the time wasn't right. Weinstein was allowed to be offered up as the focus of Hollywood scandal, because too many people were talking bringing up pedophilia, child and adult molestation, slavery and trafficking in Hollywood. The attention was therefore concentrated on a FALL guy.

We can't act naive when it comes to how witnesses and victims of crime are "dealt with" when going against powerful entities - that is part of what allows it to occur.

I don't think this is going to placate the MeToo movement, rather I think it's likely to have the opposite effect and be a source of encouragement. I seriously doubt that Weinstein will be the last high profile figure in Hollywood to be accused of this kind of behavior.

Ok.

I wouldn't be surprised if that line of reasoning led the jury to acquit on the most serious charges... which is why he's looking at about 5-10 years instead of life.

Of course, given his age and failing health, it might end up a life sentence regardless.

There were over 100 women, many of whom were willing to testify if needed, who all had similar stories. There were some corroborating emails and testimony from people who had knowledge of what happened. Much of the additional evidence didn't get media coverage because the testimony of the six women dominated the media's bandwidth.

because people won't ask for anything else to e done even though they may know there are more that re responsible.
Got it now, thx.
I know that Michael Jackson, then Bill Cosby, were both scrutinized and one acquitted, probably unjustly, and the other found guilty. So while Weinstein and Epstein are probably a small percentage of the predators in the celebrity community, I'm not as skeptical as you are about the lack of prosecution.

I'm a Ronan Farrow fan and despite the fact that The New Yorker gets a lot not just wrong, but actually falsifies the record. They didn't get the Weinstein story wrong. Even though his protector now appears to be Hillary Clinton!

Further, the person that setup Epstein, albeit due to being conned, was none other than Leslie Wexner, founder of Limited Brands and majority owner of LBrands who's largest brand is Victoria's Secrets. Vicky's was just taken private last week and Les announced he is stepping down, the sales are off significantly, and the stock is off by over 50% in one year. Partially or largely due to the ME TOO movement, according to analysts.

So for those reasons, I remain optimistic, and just as the Clery Act took 10 years of work to become law and force colleges to accurately report campus rapes instead of covering them up with false record-keeping and refusal to charge suspects, so too, my hope is that the all criminals receive blind justice, including political figures and corporate leaders and even former presidents and their wives.

MJ owned 51% of sony (including the Beatles music), so He had to be made an example of. Cosby has a similar situation, and he was outspoken about some things in Hollywood. Michael Jackson was Hollywood's favorite abuse victim for a time, so they knew all the "sick things" he did (if any) since they taught him and exposed him to it. An adult male who wants to be around children more than peers is already a serious psychological issue, but with all the resources Hollywood affords, no one helped him. No one watched out for him. His life and innocence was sucked out and all we did was "Rock With Him". Michael Jackson was allowed to be crucified by the public, a decade later, and then posthumously.

Cosby is outspoken against Hollywood in a clandestine way, and he has the audacity to try to establish his own self outside of Hollywood. He was a good jester until the didn't need him, but he was still allowed to be publically humiliated.

Same with R. Kelly: he is being allowed to be publically humiliated at this particular time, despite most of the music industry knew about his sexual assault of minors. They can't even get enough outrage for him even with three 6-part series with witness and victim testimony.

But, despite the majority of their music being consumed by non-black people, their "sacrifice" isn't producing the energy expected. People don't reply care - THE THEATER SHOW is a bust. It would have been much more efficient to focus on the former three, but since people didn't respond favorably (for Hollywold), they are using a higher profile patsy.

Remember, with all of these people mentioned comes a lot of High Profile entities that do not want to be known (e.g. "The Prince and Epstein"). So, it isn't just Hollywood trying to direct and control energy, it is the pressure from royalty and governments that compels them.

I believe everyone will be judged in the end, but many people behave as if there is no Judge compiling our actions for weight.

However, I vehemently do not share the same optimism, and I hope I am wrong. But, this stuff goes on all the time, and we rarely hear of the pith because every time someone tries to tell us something we dismiss them because it doesn't seem likely/possible/agreeable... then they are gone (I used to be that person, so I consider the scoffing and dismissal of things I am saying now as fair turnabout.)

Utter garbage.

'I did the best I could to survive': Harvey Weinstein's former personal assistant speaks out

When they returned to London, both Ms Chiu and Ms Perkins expected to tell police.

"But as soon as we started talking about [it] internally to Miramax … people were immediately, 'Well, who would believe you?'"
They ended up in a room with lawyers on either side of a table. Two young women against a Hollywood powerhouse.
They signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) binding them into silence and a threat of legal action if they ever told a medical professional, a therapist, even family members.

I see the thread’s taken a turn for the worse. “Prostitutes”? How charitable.
I would lean towards "a further turn for the worse". Sometimes I think I should spend time in a sewer. The air is so much fresher there than some threads on CF.

Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 16 years in prison for Los Angeles rape

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison Thursday for raping a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel in 2013, all but assuring that the disgraced Hollywood kingmaker will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Weinstein, who is 70 and in poor health, is already serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York [i.e. the OP], where he was convicted in 2020 of sexually assaulting other women. In handing down Weinstein’s punishment, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lisa Lench ruled he cannot serve the two sentences concurrently.
