• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, I don't think I'm fat. Calm down.

I've been hearing lately that people are supposed to gain weight in high school. I lost weight, and in fact the most I've ever weighed was 105 lbs, right before I started 9th grade (age 14 for non-Yanks). Is it bad that I kept losing weight, getting back up to about 100 lbs, and losing weight again? I was down to around 95 lbs junior year (age 17).

I'm just wondering, because a lot of people like to point out my size and amazing inability to keep weight on. I don't want to be overweight but I hate being a size zero!

Eating small frequent meals help to balance your calorie intake throughout the day and also keeps your blood sugar level balanced. Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 - 6 smaller meals throughout the day.

I've found that eating 2 larger meals a day keeps my weight up, but snacking in between helps my blood sugar. When I tried eating 5-6 times a day, I couldn't keep my weight up.

Well if you find that weight not good for you, u could always add in those nutrional drinks, like Boost, or Ensure, between your 2 big meals, The vanilla is much better then the chocolate.

Yup, you said it best. Also as I'm sure youve been told, genetics plays a huge factor in it as well.

For 5' 3", 100 is a bit on the small side, but as long as you're eating properly, getting enough sleep, and feeling fine then there's no reason to worry. Some people are just of a skinnier build than others. For example my brother is 6' tall, but only weighs ~130 lbs, whereas I am 5'10" tall and weight 185 lbs. I do have a little bit more bodyfat than he does, but the majority of the reason I weight so much more than him is that I naturally have a more muscular build than he does and I lift weights, whereas he is naturally very skinny and he never lifts weights. Most can't believe that he and I related because of how much bigger I am. I wouldn't call him unhealthy, however, just skinny.

if you drink a gallon of whole milk every day along with your regular meals you will gain weight. you may have to increase your exercise load, but i have seen people put on as much as 30 lbs in a month. you are looking at an extra 2600 calories per day. gaining or losing weight is simple math if you want to gain weight take in mor calories than you use, if you want to lose take in fewer than you use in a day.
