  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi! I'll give you my experience. But wait for bear, catalyst and others to check in here -- they're the experts.

I had tried unsuccessfully to gain weight several times, by eating a lot of foods generally accepted as healthy. Whenever I worked out, though, I ended up burning so many calories that I found it difficult to gain much strength, let alone muscle size and weight. What finally made a difference was supplementing with proteine powder, along with eating as much proteine as possible. This, and I had to cut back the number of days, sets and reps I was lifting, and concentrate on compound movements with heavy weights. Examples are squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, etc. These aren't much fun to do at first but can really help. Finally, like I said, listen and learn from the experts!

Good luck!

The advice on loading up on protein is pretty solid, and has stood the test of time. Post workout nutrition is critical, and you should consume a quickly digesting protein like whey along with some high GI carbs, like dextrose or maltodextrin, to replenish muscle glycogen, resist the catabolic effects of training, and speed recovery for your next workout.

Make sure you are getting your essential fatty acids, and if gaining weight is truly a problem for you, do not worry too much about over eating. Good sources of protein are all pretty much animal products.

Right before bed, a shake consisting of milk and whey protein can be consumed to maintain a positive nitrogen balance during the night.

The Bear has written up a very detailed plan, and you could find it somewhere in this forum with a little bit of effort.

Well, I had same problem of gaining waight. But month after I've got married I gained 20 Lbs.
To keep the waight and get more I do folowing:
I just started to work out at home on my bowflex (works great and you don't have to travel: hop on any time you want and no membership required :) ) So I eat a lot of potato: mash potato, potato soup, baked potato, fried potato (very good), fries..., lots of milk, and milk with macoroni, pasta, lots of meat, eggs: baked, boiled and fress (very good for your voice too if you sing).
By eating this you gain waight first, and second you don't fill your liver with all of those cemicall protein and so on.

Here is my answer. Make sure you eat 3 good meal a day and NO Jack in the box on McDonalds!
