The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know why exactly, but it is almost as if the mood stabilizers make you more hungry than usual. I do believe we do alot of emotional eating though too. So that contributes also. I have been on wellbutrin for a couple of years now and my doctor just upped my dosage of it because she thinks I am suffering a big depression right now. It is true that I just ended a relationship with my boyfriend of 2 and 1/2 years, but I didn't think I needed more medicine. I comply so they won't argue with me. I know I should speak up, but I don't think they would listen if I did. They help me at Comprehensive Care with free therapy and some cheaper medicines, so I feel bad if I were to complain. Hang in there. Spring and Summer are coming on now and it could be fun to start doing some outdoor activities that could help in losing some of that excess weight we've gained. When I started on my lithium seven years ago, I went from 138 pounds to 215 lbs. It was horrible. I was retaining A LOT of water in my legs... and could barely walk. It threw my thyroid off and I had to be put on thyroid medication. I was on Depakote at the time... so I know that also played a part in it. I went off the Depakote and they adjusted my lithium dosage.
I'm back down to 170 ish... but that has been within the last month or so. I'm under an extreme amount of stress right now... and instead of stress eating or other extreme behavior... I have taken to walking the beach every morning praying to God... and eating only when I am hungry. I've also cut out foods that irritate my stomach and included more veggies (I used to think I hated all of them).
I'm back down to 170 ish... but that has been within the last month or so. I'm under an extreme amount of stress right now... and instead of stress eating or other extreme behavior... Lithium will make you gain a lot of weight..I was put on Trimictal..What a difference!! It takes a while to get to your ful miligrams but, the wait is worth it!!! No weight gain at all, actually it helps you loose the weight ( my pdr told me that ) That was my problem..gaining to much weight on meds !! GOOD LUCK and may GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!!

Believe me this will go away. Unfourtunatly not as quick as we want. Meds and therapy play a big role in recovering..NOT as big a role as GOD!! He does hear us and really is there holding our hand through this! I will pray for you..But, promise that you won't let this get to you on a " things are better off without me level " because GOD's plan is for you to go through this right now and I don't know why we have to but, I trust HIM. But He hasn't lost you. The best thing you can do is to accept 'the moment of godforsakenness' and just sit in your chair untill it passes, reminding yourself of all the good things Jesus has done for you while you are waiting.

I understand that that is how it feels but the Bible tells us otherwise. In the Bible it is written that He will never leave us nor forsake us. These dark times you are going through are there to bring you closer to God in the end. Just remember that God is bigger and stronger than our feelings.

Please don't do anything bad. Would you be able to promise that you will get help if you come really close to doing something? That's how I get out of those thoughts.. I always promise my kids that I will at least call the Christain hotline!! You will be in my prayers always!! Peace and GOD BLESS!!!
