  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I used to do a weekly weigh in on Saturday mornings. I'm down to 240 from a start of 262. The plan is to only lose another 5 down to 235. I used to play football at 245 but I can't carry the proper weight on my legs anymore, due to a knee injury, so 235 would be a better weight with a better body composition. I was at 9% in college am at 17% now planning to get back down to around 9-12% or so. I used to go to a forum for college people that were doing the Body-for-Life program. Some of the guys there would take weekly pictures and post them. That was great motivation to see other peoples results, these guys were getting very lean and had great nutritional and workout advice.

Rats! I got to talking with a pastor at the Y today and forgot to weigh in! Last Friday was 158.5, and yesterday was 159.5. I AM trying to slowly lose, but had a weekend of excess food on vacation, and lost my routine between these last two weights. I think I'll be on the way down again by next Friday... although, with summer sports starting for my boys and me, we miss supper a lot and get home late and starving or stop for fast food. Gotta plan to avoid that!

Hey, stonehands! I just got my BF measured at 11.3 and was pretty happy with it. I did it on vacation, though, and don't know where to get it done locally. Is there any at-home test that is reasonably priced and reliable?

OK, I did a little checking on my own for Body Fat testing...

Here's a site that shows different products, and has a page with more information too: HealthCheck Systems

The one I just used is in the upper right corner... might shop around and consider one of those babies for home... or the scale kind. Anyway, enjoy the info! :)

The most accurate way to measure bodyfat is underwater weighing. If you live near a university they may have it available for a small fee of around 15-30 dollars. Some YMCA's might do it also. My second choice would be the skin calipers, the more sites they take readings from the more accurate the results, this method is a bit more inaccurate and can be off anywhere from 1-3% and results vary from each person that does the test. The bioimpedence thing where they stick the little electrodes on you and send a small electrical current through your body is the next method down the list. This one can vary greatly depending on how much water you are retaining due to diet, or how soon you just went to the bathroom, the more water in your body the lower your bodyfat will read, so if you take the test and then drink a bunch of water and take it again it will read that you lost a bunch of fat. I'm not exactly sure but I think that the scales use the same method as the bioimpedence.
