i don't like widescreen! maybe i'm one of the few who don't but the strips of black annoy me

on the new widescreen tv sets it would have no black bars.

on 1.78-1.85:1 movies should be no black bars or maybe a slight bar top and bottom on widescreen tv sets, but on 2.0:1 and up (a lot of movies are ~2.35:1) there will be black bars top and bottom unless you zoom in and crop the sides (fullscreen 1.33:1) this is called pan and scan and you can lose up to 60% of the picture in this fashion. Some movies like Ben Hur if you crop them it completely changes the way the movie looks because it is 2.55:1 widescreen. HDTV programs here will have bars top/bottom because they are 16:9 or 1.78:1 format so you either have to zoom in and that chops off the sides some or have the black bars.

ok .................... hmmm i know that i get the black bars top and bottom unless i pan and scan and when i do that their heads change shape and text gets cut off if there are subtitles or when they show character names/details at the beginning so ........ i need the kinds of movies where there aren't bars!

I got used to watching widescreen movies on my 25 in fullscreen tv set. I can ignore the black bars and focus on the full picture of widescreen movies. I have a little portable dvd player that is widescreen so putting fullscreen stuff on it makes for pillar boxing or bars on the sides instead lol

oh weird having them on the side! i don't know ................ i know people grow used to it; i just find the bars distracting plus they eat up the screen

if your tv set is big enough and you are close enough the bars don't bother you as much as it is like watching it in the theater from the back row lol
