Wedding Ring = Cure All?

Monogamy and promiscuity do impact STD statistics. However, marriage has little do to with it.

There are lots of married people that cheat, or get divorced/separated and pursue other partners. There are also lots of non-married people that have monogamous relationships.

Condom usage also affects STD statistics.

None of these things exist in a bubble, so marriage can't be considered a cure-all any more than wearing a seatbelt will guarantee your safety in an accident.

I think both the OP and the first reply make some absurd statements. I can't think of anyone who beleives that a wedding ring is a "cure all" or will protect them from STDs or pregnancy (many I know got married to have babies, not keep from having them).

And the whole gay tangent was just way off base.

Look, homosexuality is dangerous. Homosexuality is a vile sin. So no matter how many weak arguments you try to come up with (std's, needles of junkies, blah, blah, bluh...) it will not matter. Homosexuality is still a vile sin, and holy matrimony is still the standard for our country and children.

Getting married and staying pure and keeping away from vile sins like adultery and homosexuality; is beautiful and awesome!!!

Listen guy, I hate to break this to you, but real straight men don't constantly obsess over gay men. Let it go, or just come out already.

Please stop trying to scare our youth away from holy matrimony.

Heterosexuals scared me away from "holy matrimony" (whatever the hell that means) when I was 12. I'm still content with the idea of never being married.

*Note to all Americans: Stay pure until you get married. Then get married in the sight of God and stay pure and holy in those bonds of marriage.

This will help prevent sin and disease!

This is the prevailing attitude in many people who are against pre-marital sex and who espouse abstinence. "Just get married and you wont get STDs!" Its an attitude I see here as well
