• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Don't let those that are not merciful keep you from God. They do not represent His desire for you to come back into the fold. I can call myself anything and act the opposite but then you know I'm not exactly telling the truth. By their fruits you will know them.

My oldest who is 5 has autism, not to mention my other two really don't have a baby sitter. Shall I take them with me? I was unaware you could take them on a weekend retreat...*sarcasm* If you must know it was people being overly critical and judgmental which is why I left the church so many times, not to mention being abused terribly physically and sexually in the name of the church and god to "teach me a lesson" by my step father so Thanks for the reminder. Jesus is totally shining through you........

So instead of thirsting for the Catholic faith by learning everything you can about it one tries to wiggle out of attending a weekend course on Catholic marriage. Obviously I am missing something you guys aren't

Yeah, you're missing the fact that they have three very little kids that can't just be parked in the parking lot for the duration of the engaged encounter weekend. They have multiple obligations including 1.) engaged encounter weekend and 2.) living breathing small people that need them to care for them. They are trying to figure out how to make the best of what they have in front of them. Are you stepping up to watch their children while they go on the engaged encounter weekend?

It is certainly not about rules and regulations. It is provide to be married couples the Catholic perspective of the sacrament of marriage to equip them so that they may have the understanding to weather the storms that are sure to come. It's about teaching couples to grow in faith, to stay close to the Sacraments and hopefully instill an unselfish love...a sacrificial love.

I agree, if this is viewed as a requirement or rule, there are always exceptions to the rule. But it should not be viewed in that manner. If it is, people may mistake it for judging people's actions and we certainly don't want that.:screamcat:

I think it was the way it was delivered though. ;)

So in essence you are teaching your kids it is ok to shack up with someone before marraige and you want to get a pass on a weekend which should show you the real purpose of the vocation of marraige (which is to get your spouse to heaven). I pray you grow in your Catholic faith. And please pray I grow in mine.

There is nothing wrong with living together before marriage in and of itself. I knew a couple that lived together and had kids from previous marriages. They left their door open at night until they got married. It's one thing to date another person, it is a whole different reality to live with someone. It is also less of a burden if you have kids.

....and we wonder why the world is in such a moral crisis:doh:
True but I learned that on RCIA. There were several coupled with kids that lived together and were not asked to do otherwise.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~MOD HAT ON!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This thread has gone through a small clean up and it's possible a further cleaning will take place. Please remember the following rule when posting:
Congregational Forum Restrictions
Members who do not truly share the core beliefs and teachings of a specific congregational forum may post in fellowship or ask questions, but they may not teach or debate within the forum.
You can find that listed within the Board Rules
The rule means that you can note teach or debate in any congregational forum unless you TRULY share their core teachings and beliefs. If you don't TRULY share that faith groups core teachings and beliefs you are only allowed to post in fellowship. The arguing back and forth in this thread is a derailment which is basically Off Topic (OT) and that is against the rules as well:
Statement of Purpose and Off-Topic
Read and abide by each forum's Statement of Purpose; Statement of Purpose threads are sticky threads located at the top of the forum's page. Not all forums have a Statement of Purpose thread. Start threads that are relevant to that forum's stated purpose. Submit replies that are relevant to the topic of discussion.
While some replies "may" be relevant to the conversation you need to keep in mind that specific forums have a Statement of Purpose (SoP) or a Satement of Faith (SoF). So if your reply goes against either one, or both, of those then you are in violation. That is what took place here. Debating and arguing your point of view in a faith group that took the thread Off Topic (OT). If this continues the thread can and will be closed permanently and those involved may find themselves with staff actions.
