  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I work for a large company. Today we had our Christmas luncheon and before we ate, the VP led us in prayer. I am thankful that we were able to do so, and sad by the fact that I would even have to question whether we would be able to or not. But, overall I am grateful for my job and for the VP who has the courage to get up in front of everyone and lead us in prayer. I thought I would share this with fellow Christians and hopefully it will life you up, as well as anyone else who reads this!!

Which god did you pray to?

I pray all the time. I may not grandstand, may not say, "Hey, everyone, I'm praying before I eat my Tunafish sandwich!", but pray all the same.

Do they have some new form of mind control?

How would you have felt if your boss led you in a prayer to the Goddess, Gaia?
How about a prayer to Allah and his prophet Mohammed?

Would you feel just as happy?

we pray every staff meeting, which is weekly

Whats the big deal?

If you want to experience what its like to be persecuted as a christian, go spend some time in Iran or Quatar
We don't pray every staff meeting. In fact, this is the only time we've prayed as a company but it was very refreshing!!

I believe there's only one God, and He is the one we prayed to. I wouldn't say it was grandstanding, though. The guy who led us in prayer was very shy and humble, in my opinion anyway. He said a quick but sincere prayer and we ate. It was great.

Just for my own curiosity: Would you have looked down or differently at any person who didn't participate in the prayer?

If they respectfully didn't participate, then no. If they caused a ruckus I would consider that disrespectful.

But if he had prayed to Diana or to the Goddess, or to any other god but the one you consider to be the one true god, how would you feel about that?

You all prayed to Jesus?
Are you all Christian?
Or did some of you pray to Shiva, some to Jesus, some to Allah, some to Gaia?

How do you know who "we all" prayed to, unless you work in a religious org?

I would not have participated. Anyone else who is a Christian probably wouldn't have participated either. I am thankful that I work at what I consider a Christian company :).

I want to understand the situation.

Do you work for a religious organization, or some place like Target?

I mean everyone who prayed at the time, although they could have been praying to "Shiva". I have so far not heard anyone complain about it or even mention it.

Would you be put off by that, possibly offended? Honestly?

So it is a nonreligious company, or is it religious affiliated, ie "Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance", etc.?

I'm not asking for the name of the company, or even what you sell. I am asking if it is religion affiliated.

I went to a Lutheran Jr. College my first two years in college. Some of my teachers prayed. That made sense. I finished at a University, where I would have had a real problem with that.

Yeah, if they tried to have a serious prayer to a random goddess, I would not respect that.

Isn't that sort of wrong though? If someone stood up and honestly prayed to what they believed in with as much faith as you have, you would not respect that? Does that mean you would be disruptive or would you sit there and be quiet?

Thanks for being honest. :)

I would likely be a bit put off if my boss prayed to -- well, anyone at the start of lunch or a meeting. No offense intended, but I am glad I work for a very secular company. Funny though, when I worked for a Christian company we never prayed before meetings or at meals.

Hehe, this makes me wonder what Don Wildmon would have done had I accepted the position he offered me back in 2001.
