John 17:17-23 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

"17 Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

22 The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me."

The Word sanctifies us. (sets us apart for service to God)
God's glory is given to bring unity.
Salvations will come from this unity.

I had always thought the glory of God brought the power. The power is in the unity of love.

1 John 1
7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

1 Corinthians 12
27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Yes, we need each other, it 'comes with the package'

1 John 4
11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

What an amazing thread to bring these truths home! Thank you quietbloke,

'Yes,the body has many parts,not just one part. So if the foot says,"I am not a part of the body,because I am not a hand,that does'nt make it any less part of the body' (1 Corinthians 12:14-15)

We need each other! No doubt about it! 'What a fellowship. What a joy divine. Leaning on the everlasting arms. What a blessedness. What a peace is mine. Leaning on the everlasting arms...' Sing with me that wonderful hymn of fellowship!

Singing along with you...

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness,
what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain

'If the whole body was an eye where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing,where would be the smelling?' (1 Corinthians 12:17)

...so true, I pray for family who think they can be Christians without going to Church and being part of the body. They can't see themselves as they fall away from the one true God and Father of our Lord Jesus.

I feel that it is not just the presence at Church of other Christians, as in 'you ought to go to Church' as some would say, but the function that they offer to the others in the family of God...the Lord requires us to be there, ministering to one another. I pray my family may be moved to understand this.
I rely on and believe the Lord Jesus will answer our prayers,
