Sorry for the delay, folks. I don't know what is causing the hold-up. I'll see what I can find out.

So TheBear are you interested in having the first debate when it's finally up and running? I know I am.

It seems that you are wringing your hands over the chance to debate me on something...anything. Let me make it clear that I'm not going to be debating, just for the sake of debating. There are many others who will have the opportunity for debate.......

IOW, if a specific talking point motivates me to debate, I'll debate. If not, I'll let others have at it, and just read the debate thread. :)

Don't keep me in suspense, tell me what you think should be debated in this proposed special sub-forum. I would like to debate human ancestory with anyone who cares to look at the actual evidence. Paleontology is fine but I really like the genetics aspect. A specific topic  I would suggest the genetic basis for humans descending from apes.

You want a formal debate area just for creationism and evolution. I'll do what I can to support this providing you show me that serious formal debate will come from it. I honestly don't care if you debate me or not, I wouldn't mind if we did, but that's not the point.

I think it would be hard to convince the senior staff that any serious debate would follow. I know for me it's been like pulling teeth getting one. You said that the rules of the formal debate area would be fine, which leds me to wonder, why can't the formal debate area handle formal debates on creation/evolution?

Yourselves?
IMO...
That happens on both sides anyway.
Several common topics involve publicly patting each other on the back after a good "score" as a show of pseudo-dominance or presuming to speak "for" the opposition's position.
That topic being one of those.
Hasn't there been a complaint that there aren't any YECs here?
I wouldn't think so, personally being one that leans that way.
Do you think YECs will want to debate?

I've got that particular debate out of my system.
Seeing as it isn't a spiritual issue and the amount of conjecture and misapplication on both sides, I see more harm during those than good. :|

That's not how it works, Mark.

A formal debate between two members, is something that develops from an ongoing discussion, in a regular thread.

In the course of discussion, members A and B disagree on a particular point in the discussion. One of them formally invites the other to a debate on that point. If the other is interested, a formal debate ensues.

Yes I know, I have had three such debates and enjoyed them very much. I am still wondering if there is some reason that the formal debate forum is inadequet. I don't happen to like it because it is poorly moderated. Threads that don't belong there are moved but the rules are optional. I would be in favor of a special formal debate forum if there were some clear guidelines for a formal debate.

For me to actually approach the senior staff or Erwin I would have to show them why this is important. Just because some people like the idea doesn't really go over to well. I think if we could show them a formal debate that is unique and indepth, covering specific issues, they might consider it. Just creating a subforum for the sake of having it does not sound like something I could stand behind.

Grace and peace,
Mark

Again, a formal debate area is not a brand new concept to CF. The reason for a formal debate area in this forum, is no different than the formal debate areas in GA and in Politics. Also, in the C&E forum, you are another supporter of this idea. It is more appropriate for the staff of this forum, to take it from here. Don't worry. I'm on it. I PM'd Deamiter yesterday. :)

I hope you came up with a good reason for it because I haven't seen one. I like the idea to tell you the truth but I think it should be carfully moderated. If it took the level of discourse to a higher level it would be a great thing.

I hope it happens, I would love to participate.

We're done, folks. I tried for over two months. Since December of last year, Erwin hardly ever ventures into the "Suggest New Forums" area. He has a total of 5 posts in that forum since the begining of the year. And to boot, I don't even get the courtesy of PM replies from staff members whom I've PM'd.

This place has really turned to .... over the last few years.

So, I'm throwing in the towel...(probably to the relief of staff).

Hey.... I tried.
