I posted this suggestion in the members' support area, with minimal participation. Maybe this is the better forum for this topic...(more exposure, and seen by those who actually participate the C&E forum  )

Anyone else support this idea?

Who are you going to debate? Yourselves? Hasn't there been a complaint that there aren't any YECs here? Do you think YECs will want to debate?

Possibly in a formal debate subforum - where it can be one-on-one. Instead of one creationist (YEC or otherwise) pitched against any number of evolutionists.

Just my 0.02$ :)

That's the idea - one on one - just like GA and Politics has them.

I don't think it would work.

It wouldn't attract the "sane, but horribly misinformed and completely uninterested creationist that sometimes fires of a PRATT when evolution is in the news" type.

It might attract the "sane, horribly misinformed, but interested" type, but all "official" debates would be of the same form (showing these people the evidence and letting their sanity do the rest)

It would certainly attract the "not sane" type. But you know.. trying to have a serious discussion with those people is terrible anyway. (although some people on this forum seem to like it.. dunno why)

I don't know about all that.

It's a simple, one on one, formal debate sub-forum, just like in GA, in Politics, and other formal debate forums on this site.

It's not rocket science. There's nothing deep to analyze. It's a request for a formal debate sub-forum in the C&E forum. That's all.

The key is to have a fairly narrowly defined topic and formal rules as to number of posts, response time and length of posts. I think the TWeb wrestling ring model is a good approach. (I just can't seem to make TWeb links work consistently here)

I did one of those (Frumious v Jerry Don Bauer on Macroevolution) and it doesn take a lot of time so a person needs to be ready to commit to the effort invovled. My opponent eventually bugged out before the end which did save me some time. Still it was a lot of work.

Here is a link to their main index which may work.

I'd like to see a formal debate with that Aaron Ra fella, he's like the Achilles of the debating world but without the heel.

Theres several like:

http://www.christianforums.com/t1881719-what-razz-believes-for-ed-and-aron-to-mull-over.html - This doesnt get too interesting unless you want to marvel at the ridiculousness of his opponant.

http://www.christianforums.com/t1655407-which-is-the-more-honest-and-probable-position.html - This one is fun to see how uninterested in science his opponant is, I think the guy is quite literally crazy but decide for yourself.

http://www.christianforums.com/t750574-the-origin-and-history-of-life.html
- The famous Aron-Ra / Mark Kennedy debate! :D

And then theres the Texas Evolution debate over here. Loads of interesting information. If you want a laugh go to the forum (see link below) and check out the absolutely insane Mark Cadwallader.
www.studentofnature.org/texasdebate.htm

Arons closing remarks can be found here since his opponant didnt want him to post it to the debate website:

I think formal debates would be a great thing. It wouldn't just be Creationists vs. Evolutionists. I could see things such as YECists vs. OECists views being debated, with dad representing YECists and JohnR7 representing OECists.
The split versus the gap. Now that would be fun to watch.
