  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What does the WCF have to say about Creationism? I read a short article from Greenville Seminary and they make the claim for a young earth, creational out look of the men who wrote the document, is that correct?

I am of the opinion that the framers of the Confession are somewhat ambiguous on this issue. Later we have men such as Hodge and Warfield who have no problem accepting scientific data that the earth may be older than previously thought. These men i.e Hodge and Warfield were thoroughly confessional Christians. I am not convinced that all the Puritans held to the six linear day theory of creation. Albeit that was the acceptable norm.

Chapter IV
Of Creation
1. It pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,(1) for the manifestation of the glory of His eternal power, wisdom, and goodness,(2) in the beginning, to create, or make of nothing, the world, and all things therein whether visible or invisible, in the space of six days; and all very good.(3)

In the WCF the expression "in the space of six days" is used...are we to apply an "advanced" hermeneutic to these words as well now so that we can understand "day" to mean something other than "day"?

And should the fact that Hodge and Warfield saw no incongruity be enough to encourage us to agree with them even though they did so during a time well before relativism had ravaged the free market of ideas?
