Way Less Activity in TAW These Days Compared to Earlier Times

It seems like the entire board is less active than it used to be. I suppose that would be even more noticeable on TAW. The Orthodox generally agree on everything. That doesn't lend itself to a lot of lively debate.

I’ve said what little of value I have to say. And plenty of people think that doesn’t even have value, is just plain wrong. I’ve learned that most people don’t give a rat’s behind about my opinions, and mostly keep them to myself. I’ve warned y’all about the importance of language, and how much of what we now say is not consonant with how the Church fathers talk about things, most obviously in terms of sexuality and the family, but people go right on saying
that people are “gay”, talk about one’s “gender”, even say that people ARE “trans”-anything. I don’t see any good in going a thousand rounds with people who reject what I see.

Trying to just stay alive with little motivation beyond the needs of my immediate family to even do so. The people promoting leftist heresy have largely dropped out, few ask questions that are “up my alley”. Events seem to be sharpening to a point. The naive idea I had that we are all of one heart and mind is gone, stripped from me by the events of the past couple of years and more slowly during the preceding decade.

I feel like I’m nearly done. Not much left to say, and almost no one to say it to, anyways. But I’ll still check in, for a while, anyway.

I think message boards in general have been on the downturn with the rise of web 2.0 and social media which have a lower bar to entry and try to suck up all human interaction, though I think in recent years people have started to realize that maybe it is nicer to have things done on smaller servers run by actual people rather than multibillion dollar companies trying to track your every movement in order to sell you ads. Things are definitely much more quiet here, I've run into former posters from this place who are quite active elsewhere.

A large part of it is the overall trend of social media taking over the Internet, but I do remember back in 2007 or so the then webmaster implemented some changes that really didn't go over very well and a lot of people just left.

Specifically for TAW, we may disagree on some things within Orthodoxy, but we're all on the same page on a lot of basic theology that many other groups argue over. It is also the Paschal season for another week or so and we do have the summer months fast approaching here in the USA.

For me? Well, I'm in my early 30s and my priorities have changed. Logging on here just isn't that important when you don't have a lot of time between work, finishing one's degree, career changing, and, more recently, potentially dating again (pray for me).

I’m still here…just don’t post a lot (social media included). Everything is so crazy IRL, that I sometimes just stop being on the Internet - or at least limit it.

Me either. However, it might be good if all people were to severely limit our use of social media and the internet, or any other entertaining preoccupations and prayed without ceasing instead, including praying the Psalms and the Jesus Prayer. But, then again, God alone could grace us with such a gift.
