  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's really interesting to see Americans complaining about nudity and sexuality, but being virtually untouched by gruesome violence. Or disturbing, rather.

To the OP:

With Alan Moore, there are no easy answers to complex questions - just as in real life.

Knowing Moore's political standpoint (and remembering the faux right wing newspaper excerpts from the comic), I doubt that Rorschach with his radical black-and-white look at the world is supposed to be the real hero of the piece. Far from it.
Rorschach embodies the full sociopathy of radical right-wing vigilantism, taken to its logical conclusion.

I am glad that you also picked up on everything I did...

There is a cultural change happening -- the liberalism and hippie fweelings of the 1960s are dying slowly and the new underground is looking like the underground of the 1890s-1930s, where suddenly people are calling for macho values and a general sense of conservatism.

Futurism is back.

BWAHAHAHAHA! I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that you seem to regard this return to the darkest chapter of human history as a positive thing, but am consoled by the fact that it's just wishful thinking on your part.

On the subject of this topic, I'd recommend people to read a sci-fi novel called The Ethos Effect that deals with this same question and a similar choice is made by the main character in the story as in Watchmen. Just in the case of Ethos Effect, the alien race that gave the main character the technology to achieve this isn't exactly pleased that he chose to impact several societies with such drastic measures.

I'd also like to add a question to the mix that might be of interest. Since we are talking about ethics, do you think that there is a difference between ethics and morality and can an action or a decision be ethical, but not moral or vica versa?

It is amazing how much we are shocked by the sex scene, but not shocked by the violence. Which would you rather have in your life? More sex, or more violence?

Wait...you can't have both? :sorry:

good question but i think that would be better asked in a seperate thread since it doesnt really relate to this one more than any other.

My memory of reading the original comic and my thoughts on the motives of Ozymandias and the final result (which is slightly different than what was presented in the movie) revolved around the notion that this was supposedly the smartest man in the world. And this scheme (hatched in 1968) was the best he could come up with?

LOL!

Ditto.
