  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Was Noahs Flood Big?

Was Noah's Flood a big one?

  • It was local so other people in the world survived.

  • It was local and all mankind drowned. (Unless on the Ark)

  • It was global and all mankind drowned.

  • It was global yet other parts of the world were not submerged.

It's pretty goofy but some say that all humanity stayed in a geographic basin.

Why all animal life would as well, I dunno.
Like this but with the rain on the inside.

I have a hard time figuring out what people without faith are thinking.
But they are usually mad at believers for something that happened in
their life and looking to blame some religion for the problem.

They talk about suffering in the world as the reason I should believe God
does not exist. But I with my teenage brother shooting himself in the
head at 17, they have weak examples of world misery to offer.

I disagree. Most atheists that I know of simply got tired of all of the contradictions and bad logic in the Bible. And not just in the Old Testament and how science and archaeology debunk the first two books. There is the awful gangster "morality" of the Christian god. The fact that the Gospels don't even agree about the one most significant event in the Gospels. There are four different versions of the Resurrection in the four Gospels.

Of course even the earliest of Gospels was written more than a generation after Jesus' death. Stories always grow with time and with the telling. Just compare the height of Goliath from the current writings to earlier ones. Even this story went from the reasonable to the ridiculous.

To anyone who actually reads and studies the Bible it can be seen that the Book was written by men, was not divinely inspired, and has earmarks of tampering.

Hard core Christians when presented with this information demonstrate that they could swallow a pineapple whole and that they could have trouble passing a kernel of corn in the morning. In fact, I think that may be Biblical.

There are no contradictions or bad logic. But I've found that only to be visible after getting the error assumptions out of the way. For example.....you tell a tale of the four gospels being different and dismiss the idea that 4 people have different views of the same event.

How biased is that?

Then you claim that the 4 stories are different, but that the writings have been tampered with. Ummm, if the stories were tampered with, then why would they have differences? Why wouldn't early writers have fixed the supposed errors?

So you're telling two tales. One that the stories were full of inventive changes, and two, the story changers didn't mess with the supposed conflicts. Let's just pick the first "error" on a list:

Insects with 4 legs. Well, if you call the more used legs "arms" then you have 4 left. And locusts are mentioned a lot in the bible.
Using my skills of scientific observation, I might say that a locust has four arms and two legs.
Every single "conflict" has that simple of a resolution. Every one I've checked into so far anyway.

Once again, the Noah tale is only a story that grew with the telling.

There are 20,000 hand written manuscripts. If you can show evidence of the story "growing" at any point, you'd be famous.
And you're not or you would link to your blog. They are free.

No, you just need a testable hypothesis.
Based on what evidence?
In the scriptures, which is what we are referring to, water has odd properties.
The Red sea parting is one example.

So says the person who has to ignore 99.9+% of biologists.

That's not considered a learned profession. Anybody can be one.
But it depends on what one is saying. I support most of the variations of evolutionary theory.
