  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've always been a big fan of Bob Marleys music. It was well known that he was a Rastafarian for many years, which is sad because it is obvious that Rastafarianism is a cult despite the acknowledgement of Jesus, God and the Bible. Its almost as dodgy as Mormonism!

I was talking to someone today who told me that in his dying days he actually converted to 'real' Christianity and therefore would be saved.

Could anyone confirm this for me?

I love his music but, unfortunately, that's an urban legend. He died an unrepentant Rasta.

It's funny but when anyone dies, they say this.

One of my favorite actors was Steve McQueen and I remember when he died that there was this big story going around that he was on his deathbed and called Billy Graham who, of course, dropped what he was doing in South America to fly to his bedside. Graham, himself, came out to refute the story and said that it wasn't him.

They said the same thing about Einstein and Darwin and just about everybody at one point.

It would be great if it's true but it doesn't appear to be.

Not to be rude but isn't that kind of attitude incredibly arrogant and short sighted? People are entitled to there beliefs, many would make the same mistake when referring to Christianity. Seems to me that these approaches to religion only make Christianity less accessible.

Of course people are entitled to their beleifs and I wouldnt be calling Rastafarinism a cult outside of Christian circles because I dont want to appear arrogant and short sighted. However I thought that this post would only be read by other Christians who would be in agreement with me.

The difficulty with Christianity is that some of it WILL offend other people, even though it is true. That is why there are some truths which I only discuss amongst other Christians.

For example I feel its true that Christians who have been saved go to Heaven and everyone else goes to Hell. That would obviously offend many non-Christians and appear narrow-minded and arrogant. But this is what I really beleive to be the truth. It doesnt mean that I take joy in beleiving that Muslims will end up in Hell, or even that I see Christians as morally superior to Muslims. Its just this is the way things are. I mean I didnt like the holocaust, but I know it happened.
However I wouldnt go up to non-Christians and say "your going to Hell", although if they asked me what I beleived I would tell them the truth.
However amongst Christian circles we will openly talk about our beleif that sadly many will never see the Kingdom of Heaven.

I just treated this thread as one for talking to others of the same beleif rather than a public discussion. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone.

oh and as for what you said about this sort of approach to Christianity making Religion less accessible I agree. However this is the Biblical approach. If I beleive in the Bible then I will conclude Mormonism and Rastafarinism to be a cult as much as I may like the people who follow those faiths.
