Wow, your story is incredible. I know there has been a lot of great responses already, and it's been a while since this was posted, but what jumps out to me is:
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Romans 10:17
I would encourage you to attend Church with your husband, or listen to sermons online, and just let the Word of God be explained to you over time, I wonder if through that you may be able to decide if you believe or not, rather than trying to work out the mechanics of science/history/future etc.?
PS I really admire your strength after what you've been through. Why does God allow bad things? I believe it's evidence that we are fallen creatures, that humans would do something/s like this to others. We need to see that our condition is dire, and the whole human race needs saving. Then it's up to us to see that our offenses that we own have been first against God, and perhaps affected other people, but acknowledge that we are not basically good and we are intrinsically wretched, and fling ourselves on Christ for salvation. The book of John is a good place to start
