  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know probably this topic could have been discussed a Lot in here. But still forgive me for posting this one again. I have been watching and listening to various News agencies and reading lots of articles about the WAR in Iraq.

I had few conclusions on this one:

1) The war with Iraq was waged not just because Saddam was suspected to have gathered the Neuclear,Bological and Chemical weapons of mass destruction but is suspected of other activities too.

2) I read in an article in a local Magazine saying that the British Isles is going be emptied in its Oil reserves by 2030 and they need a Long term plan for this.

3) Most of the Politicians in the US Government own Business with Oil companies in the gulf and there is a huge tug of war between them in gulf where Saddam is trying to gain a upper hand on it.

4) Again this is an article from the local magazine: More than two years of Occupation in Iraq hasn't had solved the Insurgency problem. Infact they are getting powerful day by day which meant that these Terrorists or not just born during the war time but they are there Funded , recruited , trained and co-ordinated by a number of Terrorist organizations through out the Musilm dominated countries and they are upto something big in future. Now that the place itself is occupied they are now changed their fighting's for Iraq. And that these organizations received a huge jolt by the occupation.

I mean i have been reading lots of magazines and news feeds i may be wright i may not be as these are few extracts from News Feeds and magazines. I just need to know what others opinions are about this. Probably most of you are also following various magazines and News feeds. This thread can be closed if it opens up heated debates.

The war was a good idea. It was not handled perfectly but the basic idea to invade was good. They went on the information that they had.

I don't trust all the intentions of Bush or several others involved in the planning. They definitely had political gains involved as well. But it still served the good of the american people. Too bad they didn't have the political clout to invade Syria as well.

Regardless of what the political gains were by the republicans or Bush, I think it was good for the Iraqi's. Now we have a free country over there and that is better than them being lead and tortured by a cruel dictator. I only wish that more countries would have supported us (France, Germany) but we know why they didn't support us. Technically when we had to go to war in 1991 we should have finished the job then.

Here is my problem with the Iraq war.

On 9/11/2001 we suffered the worst attack in the history of our country. Worse than Pearl harbor. Even though we know exactly who did it and where they are, we don't retaliate for a month! After we finally have Bin Laden and the leadership of Al Queda penned up in the mountains of Tora Bora, Our guys, the best trained, best equipped fighters on the planet are chomping at the bit to go take these Low-lifes out and what do we do? We give the job, along with a lot of military hardware to a bunch of Afghani militiamen and tell them to go take Al Queda out. Instead they all go home and take their new guns and Humvees with them, allowing Bin Laden and several thousand Al Queda to escape into Pakistan and Iran. Then we start taking all of our major assets out of Afghanistan to attack Iraq, who by the way never attacked us at all.

We get attacked at Pearl Harbor and our entire nation steels itself for 3 1/2 years until it utterly destroys those that attacked us. We get attacked in New York and Washington DC, and our attacker is still at large 3 1/2 years later.

The war in Iraq is probably the biggest blunder in the history of the Republic.

The war was undertaken based on falsehoods and misinformation.

I think that Iraq will be a better place with democracy and without Saddam. But I think that achieving it this was has been incredibly damaging to the country and region, as well as the US. There were other options available that I think should have been investigated more throughly before war was undertaken.

Specifically, I think that Iraq's approaches to the US shortly before the invasion should have been at least entertained, rather than being refused outright.

It is very possible that the threat of war (the original purpose of the authorisation by Congress) could have been sufficent to secure large-scale weapons inspections, and internationally monitored democratic elections, both of which would have been completed by now, but neither of which would have required the loss of life or injury that this war has been responsible for.

Great to see a young evangelical from India

I won't ask which part, but will pray the protection of God's mighty warrior angels to surround you daily, as in many precious Bible promises

AoG Pastor Pete Cunningham, who runs Green Pastures homeless ministry, has just returned from encouraging AoG pastors, etc, in S India

Anyway, to the topic you raise..

Just time to say the Bible prophesies R Euphrates to be the catalyst for for both Revelation 9:13/18 - where 33% of mankind die in war begun there - & for Armageddon itself

Rev 16:12 forecast R Euphrates is dried up for a massive invasion of Israel, via the intervening mountains, by an oriental army, which Revelation elsewhere says, "I saw the number of the troops: it was 200 million"

When Rev was written, the world population was less than that
But in 1961, Chairman Mao boasted that China alone could field 200 million militia "at the drop of a hat"

The decision to go to war can be defended on a number of levels.

Getting rid of Saddam and his regime and the benefits to the US strategic position in the region were two immediate effects of the decision. This has put presure on other uncontrolled regimes in the region such as Iran and syria.

Isreal's position has been stregthened by the removel of Iraqi support for the palistinians and a potential millitary threat in the future.

Vast amounts of oil, the very lifeblood of the worlds economic growth are now controlled by the USA.

The USA domestic front has been whipped into a patriotic frenzy, allowing the US administration a free hand in almost any sphere it chooses.

Vast amounts of money are being made by political supporters of this war allowing the formation of a new force in US culture to gain domanance, The Media-Millitary-Industrial complex.

This war and relating policy is to the benefit of the US empire.

On the other hand, If you try and defend the decision on the grounds of Human rights, just wars, WMD or my favourite "for the good of Iraq". Your talking out your A#$%^)&#.

Short answer...The United States has strategic and economic interests in the region. They now have both a strategic and economic advantage based on the invasion.

Right. There certainly were strategic economic interest leading to what you aptly referred to as the "invasion".What I asked you was what good this has brought (past tense not future tense)to the American people as you stated.

Horrific timing and poor planning. Fortunately we have one of the finest armies in the world, and they have been cleaning up the mess to the best of their ability. Iraq was not an immediate threat. The bright side is that conditions may improve for the Iraqis.

The war against Iraq was for OIL, OIL and OIL!

It had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11. The U.S governement LIED before the war saying there was a link.

Saddam's WMDs and he could attack within 45 minutes was also a LIE. Bush and Blair LIED to take their countries to war.

U.S. businesses are making BIG money from the 'rebuilding'. A 'rebuilding' which include forcing Iraqi farmers to use Monsanto's GM seeds.

Saddam wasn't a nice chap. BUT NEITHER ARE BUSH and BLAIR.
All those fake stories were put about before the war, like Saddam putting people in shredders.

Iraq is a much worser place now IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN IRAQI. They no longer have Saddam to keep their Muslim persecutors in check.

But how much of the Christian persecution in Iraq gets reported in the media? They pretend it's not happening.

What do so-called Chistians like the Blair & Bush do to help them? NOTHING!!!!

The Iraqi war was because of Oil. It's foolish to pretend otherwise. There are many Nation's with idiots in charge, who are much more dangerous and have much worse human rights records than Iraq.

The U.S.A itself is terrorising the world and worst of all, the idiot in charge claims to be a Christian.

Murdering of innocents. Genocide in Fallugia.

Since the Iraq war started, the number of civillians killed is 20,248 (www.diakrisis.org)

25,000,000 people free to decide how their own country is run? No more broken legs for losing a soccer game? No more "rape for fun" rooms? It was the right decision. And oil? Yeah, this was all about oil. Have ya filled up lately? Where's all that oil?

Oh is that why the prices are so cheap now?
The USA domestic front has been whipped into a patriotic frenzy, allowing the US administration a free hand in almost any sphere it chooses.
True. Do you think that's a good thing?
Vast amounts of money are being made by political supporters of this war allowing the formation of a new force in US culture to gain domanance, The Media-Millitary-Industrial complex.
Other than Cheney and his elk, have the American people as a whole benefited?
This war and relating policy is to the benefit of the US empire.
I think the verdict is still out on this one.

The War in Iraq is a test run for future imperial empire projects. Yes, oil is a factor, but there are so many birds being killed with this stone it's almost breathtaking...

What an fantastical epoch this American government is. Clearly we've entered the new age with Bush at the helm. Doesn't anyone see this?

Nobody is saying Saddam's regime wasn't corrupt. There's worse things in the world going on, why doesn't America go and "fix" them up too? (situation in Sudan comes to mind)

BECAUSE WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM?
