not all parents are like that though....if God is meant to be a parent how can i trust Him? i associate messing up with fear. or generally just being in the wrong place at the wrong time could result in me being harmed.
No, they're not. God even says, "If you, being EVIL, know how to give good things to your child, how much more..."
So He uses evil parents to suggest degree of goodness of God.

We have to change the way we think.
it takes work to 'renew' our minds,
But it's just a replacement piece.
we 'change the way we think" by
replacing the erroneous thoughts,
eg: I'm no good, no one loves me, i can't do it,
I'm scared, I won't live, etc...
with TRUTH.
(I have the mind of Christ, I have a SOUND mind, I am beloved of the Father, I can do all things through Christ..., I am bold as a lion, I will live and not die and see the salvation of the Lord! etc.
We must LIVE by the Word of God.
It's the key to healing!
