What is meant by "waiting on the Lord"? (Proverbs 3:5)
Does this refer to specific actions, like waiting to witness to others until we are ready, or does it refer to just learning and praying before anything else?

Hi Manitouscott, the translations I have say "Trust in the Lord" for Proverbs 3:5. Which translation are you using?

Thanks!

I just went an looked up the verse in the NKJV bible and it says Trust. This makes more sense. I guess I need to start reading the Bible itself to memorize verses.

Thank you very much for your help!

I am watching a movie about King David now.

It can mean all that and more. The Greek translation of Isaiah 40:31 is hupomeno, with means to place yourself under a condition of abiding or waiting. It's a choice we make that we are going to rely on the Lord's solutions to our problems, and not go off in the strength of our own flesh. It reflects the truth of Prov. 3.5-6.

This has a whole lot of applications. The key to doing it effectively is found in Mk 11.22-ff, where Jesus tells the disciples to remain in an attitude of faith in real time as they await their requests being answered.

When the Lord says go, you go. When the Lord says stay, you stay. When the Lord says do, you do. When the Lord says don't, you don't. And so on and so forth.

Dear manitouscott. To wait and ask the Lord to lead you. In Matthew 22,
verses 35-40, Jesus tells us what God wants from us: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. The second is like it: Love our neighbour as ourselves" Jesus then states this fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." A Christian`s weapon is Love, freely given and NO tags attached. What does the Lord want from us?
We start by treating all we know and all we meet, as we would love to be treated: with kindness and friendly words, and helping hands. ( if needed)
God will see our sincere and loving efforts, and God will approve and bless us.
We might stumble and forget, but then we get up, and keep asking and thanking, and sharing with our neighbour. Jesus will give us his Love and Joy,
and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. Jesus told us to " ask
and ye will receive." ( Matthew 7, verses 7-8) We pray, and thank, and share.
I say this with love, manitouscott. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ. P.S. The Lord will know that we Love Him, because we are following
His Commandments/Words, to love and care.

Being fully yourself in His presence. This is the gem of contemplation. Like a slave waiting for oderrs from the master. Like a hand maiden whose eyes are fixed on her Lord. Simply waiting for confirmation or orders. Waiting upon the words of the master like a dog for crumbs from the table. We all wait and act according to our understanding. And do we not see the mysteries of the Lord as children awakening to a new understanding?

@asiyreh Thanks for the question.
2 things,
One- I am joyful and expectant to worship my Lord in person and be in his presence and end the pain of this life. The thought of Jesus returning in his glory makes my heart leap with anticipation.
Two- No offense meant, but I wouldn't be overly confident in your prediction because of what Jesus said about how only the Father knows the hour of his coming, but I would hope and pray that you are right!

I believe the understanding as the Spirit gives is that when you enter into His presence with praise and thanksgiving and worship God, giving Him an environment to reign and manifest and inhabit, that God will come and bring renewal into our lives. Often there is a battle to press through oppression and all that we sometimes get ourselves into. But if we continue in the presence of the Lord, the times of refereshing and renewal will come and bring us strength.

Lol I'm no prophet my friend.
It's very easy to tell from the spelling mistake I made, look:-

If I told you the Lord was going to return in an hour's time. How would yo be?

If I was in some type of prophecy mode, that would probably be perfect. Haven't got the original manuscripts to prove that theory, but this I would suspect.

I've an idea though about what we're discussing in the main topic. Allot of Christians talk about faith, which is good this is the good news. You are saved by your faith.

But what about sin, trying to walk in God's Law, in spirit but using the letter as your guide. I believe if you ever wanted to become a prophet, you'd need to do this. Start trusting God more, obeying the Holy spirit seeded by your faith in Christ. If you want a bigger role in God's ministry this would be a good path to walk I'd assume.

I know the theory the practice is hard, a cross to bare as such.

I implied no second part, but this is the type of practice our Lord recommended when he said:-

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Rev 3: 2-3.
