I couldn't sleep, but God laid a lot on my heart about my vows. I thought I'd share them here and get some feedback from other Christians.
Today I leave my parents' house to become the head of our household, as Christ is head of the church (Eph. 5:23, 31, Gen. 2:24). I promise to cherish you as Christ cherishes the church. (Eph. 5:29). I will give myself up for you as Christ gave himself up for the church. (Eph. 5:29). I will never divorce you. I will always be faithful to you. I honor you as an equal heir in the Kingdom of God. (1 Peter 3:7). As Christ finds no blemish in his church, I find no blemish in you. (Eph. 5:28, Song of Sol. 4:7).
Today I also leave my body behind to cleave to you as one flesh. (Gen. 2:24). I will nourish and cherish you as I nourish and cherish my own body. (Eph. 5:28). Because my body no longer belongs to me, but to you, I recognize that nourishing and caring for my own body is also a duty to you. (1 Cor. 7:4). I will not deprive you of my body except when we both agree. (1 Cor. 7:3-5). I will strive to be "naked and unashamed" before you, keeping no secrets and hiding no weaknesses. (Gen. 2:25).
Today I celebrate the greatest earthly gift God could ever give me. "You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, my sister, my bride." (Song of Sol. 4:9). I will love you unconditionally, striving to be patient, kind, longsuffering, and understanding each and every moment of each and every day. (1 Cor. 13:4, 1 Peter 3:7). I will keep each and every one of these vows, whether I am sick or well, whether I am poor or rich, until the day I die.
