• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Vows Against Sinning

Greetings,

In the past I've made vows not to commit certain sins or else God will take away my salvation.

Overall, I wish I didn't make those vows because 1.) knowing myself I will probably fail, 2.) this will only enhance my scrupolosity and 3.) what would stop me from making the same vows with other sins.

I've asked God to release me from these vows and I've asked for His forgiveness for making them, but I still fear them.

Any advice?

Well, if you read the post that is currently under this one, then you might be aware that I struggle with vows too. However, I do think I can say a few things here.

First, you don't set the conditions of salvation. The condition that God Himself set is faith. If you believe, then you will not be lost.

Second, are you really making vows, or do you just think you're making vows? Mental vows, induced by a psychiatric condition, that aren't made with the full consent of the will generally wouldn't be considered binding by anyone's standards.
