Thanks!
Dave
Lately, I had been going back and forth on who I would vote for. In the past, the abortion issue has trumphed all other issues. However, I also realize that Bush will probably not be able to do alot with the abortion issue because his attempts are always blocked.

So, I thought about the other issues: Education, Foriegn Policy, Terrorism, Economy, and taxes. I was starting to favor Kerry because he promises to provide more money than Bush would to education, and more money to support college students going into education. (I am a school counseling student).

Howerver, when I LEARNED THAT HE VOTED FOR PARTIAL BIRHT ABORTIONS. I decided that there was not way I could ever support anyone who was cable of such brutality. Moreover, he told a young lady, Sarah Degenhart, in round 2 of the debates (Question 17) that her concerns were a religous issue and had no issue in Law. I was furious and upset  I watched her face too as she no longer payed attention to the debate and had a solemn look on her face.

I am voting for children this year; I am voting for life, the firt right mentioned in Preamble of The Constitution.

Abortion should be only a religious issues for pro-life people; science suppports that life begans very early in the embriology of humans. By the 25th day, there is a heart beat, and by day 40 there are brain waves. Children start learning in the 2nd trimester. The age of viability is down to 22 weeks, that means that a premature fetus of 22 weaks can live outside the womb with medical help.

No it was your mother's choice

There is not one main issue that would influence my vote, if I could vote. Abortion is a large one, I don't think that tax dollars should be spent on taking the lives of unborn children. Another would have to be the stem cell research in which Kerry proposes we have women carry babies for eight months and then kill them for that purpose. It's a terrible thing I want no part of. Another is that Kerry has "plans" and has failed to explain how he plans to provide funding for his "plans"... and the whole issue of health care... In my opinion, Kerry seems to be a man who says whatever he thinks the majority wants to hear, all talk no action, and I would honestly be afraid to have him running this country.

The future of this country. That pretty much encompasses all the issues. There are some things I don't like about or disagree with Bush on, but he is, to me, not only the best choice in what his policies will do to influence our furture, he is the only choice.

Besides, I would never vote for such an open faced liar, traitor, or socialist like Kerry. But, I don't really have any strong feelings about this. :) Again, my opinion.

Civil liberties. I do not believe there is any point in "defending" freedoms we throw away, so without civil liberties, I see the whole thing as an empty sham.

Many of the issues... I'll list them and briefly why.

Abortion:
Bush - isn't making me pay my tax dollars into other people's attrocities.
Kerry - wants government funding for not only abortions here, but world wide

Fetal stem cell research
Bush - will not fund these programs w/ our money
Kerry - will spend our money and allow more lives to be taken.

*Adult stem cell research as already proven to be a method of science that has improved lives due to it's reasearch. FETAL stem cell research as not found one discovery that would help people, animals, science in general or help create possibilities for helping create vaccienes or cures. there is NO REASON to continue this research!

Marriage penalty:
Bush - for relieving the tax burdens couples have when married
Kerry - "In 1998, Kerry Voted Against Eliminating Marriage Penalty Relief For Married Taxpayers With Combined Incomes Less Than $50,000 Per Year, Saving Taxpayers $46 Billion Over 10 Years". (S. 1415, CQ Vote #154: Rejected 48-50: R 5-49; D 43-1, 6/10/98, Kerry Voted Yea)

Patroit Act:
Bush - for it (duh it was his plan!)
Kerry - against it, saying it takes away 'basic American rights'.

Note: I'd rather show my ID 3 times and take off my shoes for a security guard than be less safe... I rather HAVE to show my ID when giving blood!! (scary if patriot act wasn't around).

Protection of Marriage:
Bush - for it
Kerry - for gay marriage (oxymoron).

If Kerry wants to base marriage off of what 'society' believes it to be.. when will pologamy be allowed?

Healthcare:
Bush - got a plan passed for seniors to get medicare benefits for perscriptions (will be rolled out in 2006). Is working on reform for medical law suits, bring down costs for Dr's and Insurance and US!
Kerry - wants socialized health care for ALL kids and ALL seniors which ALL of the working class will have to pay for.... AKA They get the choice on what care they pay for and we get the bill!

Environment:
Bush: 70% of SO2 and NOx and murcury reduced from power plants emmissions. cut emission levels from construction, agricultural and industrial diesel-powered equipment by more than 90 percent, and will also cut sulfur levels in diesel fuel by more than 99 percent over current levels. (these are more than any other clean air initiave ever). He did this w/ the laws passed already in the Clear Skies bill.. not to mention the wetlands, land conservation, cleaning and redeveloping hazardous waste sites and tons more, here's his site. http://www.georgewbush.com/Record/Environment.aspx
Kerry: says he will "undo" Bush plan and "fix" things, but does not say how.. here's his web site http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/environment/

There are MANY more issues, Education, Homeland Security, Iraq, Energy, Social Security, Manufacturing, Farming, community ect..

but the ones I expanded on are the major ones that influence my voteing. I do not think that either man is the "perfect" canadite, but we'll NEVER have one of those.
I don't think I'm voteing for the "lesser of two evils either". I think that George W. Bush is an excellent president and has made many wise decisions during his time in office... he is a good leader and knows who he needs to listen to to get a job done.

... a bit long winded here, as I tried to keep it short... sorry!

Hugs,
Carina

Abortion/Marriage rights/War Issues are what I'm looking at mainly. Everything I hold dear, Bush seems to as well. Kerry seems like a coward who has memorized and studied how to use the word "promise". Hollow promises mean nothing to me.

About the issue in Iraq. I wish the soldiers would come home just like everyone else, but I also understand that it is a soldiers first duty to protect the country and I think Bush understands that. I mean if they didn't want to be sent off to another country to help make our nation safer, then don't enlist. They are soldiers for crying out loud and soldiers fight wars. I think Bush takes too much heat over that, but I support him and our troops.

Well, I suppose I'm a bit selfish then, but I'd hate to waste all these years of school if I couldn't use them...it's not that I don't consider other issues. Even if Kerry declared he would lower the border and increase globalization, I wouldn't vote for him if he wanted to reinstitute partial abortion or something.

I am voting based on education- The No Child Left Behind Act is sadly underfunded. As a public school teacher in a poor urban school, my students are suffering, and my job has been made harder because of this law. Then there is healthcare. I have two adult children who work full time but do not have healthcare coverage. Finally, Iraq. I opposed the war, and now that there is evidence of no weapons of mass destruction, I feel I have been lied to by a supposed Christian president.

My vote is for Kerry.

I felt exactly the same way. I saw the same broken look on her face. Ooohh I was so angry...... Then he brings up this litany of things he has done as a "Catholic." I'm not one to judge, but you can't be a pro-choice Catholic. But he basically said that ethics and morals, if they come from an organized religion, have no place in politics. While at the same time you can have your own "personal religion" and walk up to the mountain to worship the trees, and since its not "organized" and doesn't have a holy book, its somehow more valid for legislation. The fact is that every single person "legislates morality," what other source do we have for law then our moral conscience???

Unfortunately its never been "uninstituted." And if he is president we have ZERO chance of getting a partial-birth abortion ban signed into law, and the more important issue is he will probably get to appoint Supreme Court justices as well... people who serve lifetime terms - and basically are making the laws nowadays - and we cannot have liberals up there, it would give us no chance of ending the genocide of abortion.

The lack of honesty and integrity on the part of both candidates really concerns me. Neither of them has the character I would consider essential to the president of the United States.:(

Hope you don't mind a Methodist crashing the party, but I have something to add.

The National Counsil of Churches which many of your churches are members of released ten "Christian Principals in an Election Year." All churches that are members of the NCC agreed on these:

1. War is contrary to the will of God. While the use of violent force may, at times, be a necessity of last resort, Christ pronounces his blessing on the peacemakers. We look for political leaders who will make peace with justice a top priority and who will actively seek nonviolent solutions to conflict.
2. God calls us to live in communities shaped by peace and cooperation. We reject policies that abandon large segments of our inner city and rural populations to hopelessness. We look for political leaders who will re-build our communities and bring an end to the cycles of violence and killing.

3. God created us for each other, and thus our security depends on the well-being of our global neighbors. We look for political leaders for whom a foreign policy based on cooperation and global justice is an urgent concern.

4. God calls us to be advocates for those who are most vulnerable in our society. We look for political leaders who yearn for economic justice and who will seek to reduce the growing disparity between rich and poor.

5. Each human being is created in the image of God and is of infinite worth. We look for political leaders who actively promote racial justice and equal opportunity for everyone.

6. The earth belongs to God and is intrinsically good. We look for political leaders who recognize the earth's goodness, champion environmental justice, and uphold our responsibility to be stewards of God’s creation.

7. Christians have a biblical mandate to welcome strangers. We look for political leaders who will pursue fair immigration policies and speak out against xenophobia.

8. Those who follow Christ are called to heal the sick. We look for political leaders who will support adequate, affordable and accessible health care for all.

9. Because of the transforming power of God’s grace, all humans are called to be in right relationship with each other. We look for political leaders who seek a restorative, not retributive, approach to the criminal justice system and the individuals within it.

10. Providing enriched learning environments for all of God’s children is a moral imperative. We look for political leaders who will advocate for equal educational opportunity and abundant funding for children’s services.
