  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Are you saying it is because of Covid that it is no longer trustworthy? Is that why republican states are moving forward with restrictive mail-in ballot laws, because they expect to have Covid forever?
Nope I am saying that before co-vid they were not usually mailed out just to any old body.

I feel that IDs should be required they are not hard to get.
That's all fine and good but that's not what I was asking you. Why are you giving me that answer when I asked you where you are getting false information and why you are spreading false information?

Now it looks like you're trying to shift it to just saying you want voter ID and hoping I'll forget that you originally said that to get a ballot you just call them up and BOOM you have a ballot! Or you walk in and BOOM you have a ballot! Like MAGIC!!! LOL

Come on, before moving on to Voter ID can you just explain to me why you said something false to me and are now trying to evade answering for it?

The problem with that is people expect those ballots. They would report not getting them. For such a scheme to work one's thefts need to be kept undiscovered. Perhaps that is why we do not see that here in states with mail in ballots.
And then what? They get sent another ballot?

I was not addressing #1 nor #3 - I was sharing what I would fully support.

What issues do you have with my 4 points?

"They are not necessary" would not be a valid response
How about very little thought, they are not necessary. We don't have voter id cards
I am not an idle person and don't have time to go chasing down a ballot just to do what is my right as an American Citizen. I realize you very well may have a lot more time on your hands but many of us are busy, hard-working people who just don't have that kind of time.
Bad argument. It takes me the better part of an hour to drive my car the 1.5 miles to the polling place, park and go through the lines. When I took the bus that would turn into a three hour trip and that was only possible if I left work early to catch an early bus.
Always the added claim that false or invalid votes were negligible. They appear not to have been negligible.

If the argument being made can't stand without always having that proviso ("the fraudulent votes were negligible" or "there wasn't significant vote fraud," etc.) be attached to the claim, it says something important!

I did not know it was false. I usually vote in person and even when I did have mom request a ballot ( as I wanted to vote in an election and we were going to be out of town the fact that I live in an area where every one knows everyone meant that it was probably somewhat easier because the people in charge of voting knew me,knew her and knew we are who we say we are.

They were mailed to people who requested, and Covid changed that. That didn't make it less secure.

I wish republicans would stop beating around the bush blaming 'Secure" when we alll know it is about restricting voting to certain classes of people.

They were mailed to people who requested, and Covid changed that.
and I and others would argue that they should no longer mail them out unless requested.

I am not sure. The problem is that it would take thousands of stolen ballots for even just a Representative. That would cause an investigation that would likely find the source. Not only that, the signatures of ballots are checked. Too many failures would also start an investigation. That has never happened but it might cause an election to be done again. I do not see a feasible way to steal ballots and accomplish one's goals.

and almost everything important in life requires us to identify ourselves, from renewing a license to checking out a book from the library to cashing a check. And most of them cost something, unlike the voter IDs. But for some reason, the argument we hear is that it's quite sensible to let unknown persons cast ballots in an election for president!
Write in ballots are identified the same way hand cast ballots are in all the states i have lived in the last 40 years, signatures. That said, there is a cost to voter id's in that it takes time to get one and thus the no poll tax laws generally prohibit them.

Again the whole they are expecting the ballot only works before they get the ballot any now.

Over here signatures aren't checkes, which is a good thing, because mine looks different every time I write it.

No, republicans are RESTRICTING voting. This is all they have left.
I fail to see how the restrictions are restricting people who have the right to vote.
