Widespread unease over the country’s direction and doubts about Bush’s policies on Iraq and the economy helped propel Sen. John F. Kerry to a solid lead among voters nationwide, according to a new Times poll.

emphasis mine

I knew I was right to trust my fellow citizens to see the truth eventually. Be optimistic, and great things happen!

Bush still has 1 state... I guess 1 out of 49 aint a TOTAL loss, right?

Im willing to bet a shiny new KJV (or maybe even NIV) Bible that Kerry will win in November! Any takers?

I would if you'd read it.

Seriously, there's a lot of time between now and election time. If we manage (somehow) to hand over Iraq and at least partially pull out, things will improve for Bush, I'd wager.

It's really up in the air right now.

But I already have (the KJV that is). Just an FYI, I was a devout Christian for the first 16 years of my life. Reading the Bible from cover to cover is actually what started my ascent to atheism.

To paraphrase Penn & Teller: "Go read a Bible. I mean really read it. Why? Because we need more atheists, and nothing will make you one faster!"

What kind of inflammatory prejudiced stereotypical message is this? Seriously, save yourself now from looking any worse and think more before you post like this. I almost cant tell if you are trying to insult me or the republican party! You do a disservice to both liberals and conservatives that constructively, respectfully debate on these forums.

Why dont you read the FAQ and rules for this board before you pollute my threads again?

Obviously you dont know much about buying a car. Do you know what the sticker price is for a Mustang GT? Ever heard of Galpin Ford, the largest volume Ford dealership in the world???? You definitely dont know much about me thats for sure! Your post couldnt possibly be more incorrect or ignorant sounding.

But since you seem to want answers, allow me to provide them. I work full time for an insurance company and have a salary that barely allows me to pay my rent and my car note. I did not have my parents cosign or give money or anything for me to get this car. I go to night classes at an expensive school that I pay for myself and get Stafford loans with my own credit. I am a racing enthusiast so I spend a disproportionately large amount of my money on this car. I dont have much money... I shop at Costco and Food 4 Less ok?

In 2001 I had a used Honda Civic (which I also bought all by myself thank you). I went to Galpin Ford in the summer of 2001. They had a "6000 cars in 6 months" promotion going on, so they were eager to move volume. I found this car and the sticker was $24,500. I talked them down to $22,000 and traded in my Civic for $9000 plus $1000 cash down payment. I got a good interest rate for the time (a few months before 9/11) and my monthly payments are $350 a month for this car.

I have a decent credit rating cause I pay my bills on time. I got my down payment by saving my cash and trading in my Civic. My roommate used to sell cars himself so he came with me and helped me argue very well for this car. we basically jipped the salesman out of most of his commission. But they didnt care cause they were moving 6000 cars in 6 months get it?

Now that I gave you a history lesson on my life, my car, the concept of hard honest work, and a little education on car dealerships in general, I expect you to act more respectful when posting around me and all the intelligent respectable people that debate on this board. I also ask that you educate yourself on the stereotypes that you have in your head before you speak your mind about them on this board in the future.

Hey man, I work in the same company as 2001MustangGT and I can say that we both got our Mustangs at Galpin. We both bought them on our own. You talk like a Mustang is equivalent to a Ferrari R360 in cost. You clearly do not know anything about cars.

F.Y.I.
Sticker price on my Mustang
$26,500
Thats a V8, Stick, Leather, Mach 1000 sound system.
Monthly payment? $499

Then some extras I have added
Tubular K-member, Long tube headers, Off-road X-pipe, Flowmaster American thunder Cat-back, Short through shifter
Total for that? $1500.00

B.T.W.
We work for an HMO... nobody is wealthy around here.

I think 2001 said everything else that can be said, and I'm not going to degrade my self to your level.

I've got a nice car now too Mustang. But I work my *** off at the contruction site every day for eight hours sometimes in the blazing sun and im 17. Its only a 4C Focus but ya know, I think thats cool if you work for what you own.

I would definitly not consider myself republican or from a rich family, because were not were just average a bit below it. Just because you have some nice things dosent make you rich.

edited for content.

"I know how expensive Mustang GTs are. You make it sound like anybody can get a Mustang GT, but it sure isn't the case. The majority of Americans can't afford Mustang GTs.

So I was TRULY wanting to know WHY you are dissing the Bush Administration - because one of the democratic talking points is that Bush singlehandedly destroyed the economy.

To hear the democrat "leaders" talk, NO ONE should be able to afford anything under the Bush Administration , especially something like a Mustang GT.

The democrats are making it sound like Americans are barely able to afford food."

.....you don't have to be a democrat to be disgusted with the Bush administration. Something that the various sides forget is that an administration is made up of many people, with the president being a figurehead for a party and those that make campaign contributions. Bush has made some good decisions as well as some bad decisions, but no one can say if any of those decisions were prompted by Bush himself, or the advice of those around him. Any leader of a country as vast and complicated as the United States depends on a whole infrastructure of people who make critical assessments and then pass those assessments up the chain of command. Mismanagement and overspending as well as the creation of more government by a republican administration, is a cause for concern among many republicans...as well as those from other parties.

Nah.

Regarding the OP.... I'm an optimist so I can find the good in anything. If Bush wins the election, I'll be happy. I'm sorry, but Kerry is hardly a better alternative right now. If Kerry wins, however..... well..... its going to surely make for some fun times for us Republicans on the Politics forum.

I voted for Clinton because he was the better candidate.

You seem to be saying that voting for Clinton was somehow a bad thing. Eight years of peace and prosperity is something we could all use again.

The LA Times also predicted that Mondale would beat Reagan back in the day. That poll is about as accurrate as me posting a poll from vote.com or newsmax.com

Read this from an NBC analyst.
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/6/10/225936.shtml

Most polls have them dead even much like it was last time with Gore and Dubya. Since unemployment is down and job growth is so strong, and the markets continue to surge forward, the war is the only thing Kerry can stand on, and with the UN backing us now, it will be hard for Kerry to stand on much. But I guess he hasn't stood for one thing yet, so what's the difference. Time will tell, and all the Bush haters can follow the likes of Michael Moore and "...going to move to Canada if he (Bush) wins again..." 4 more years baby!
