I guess I must have posted here, because I'm subscribed to it, but I can't find it now. Oh well.

I'm a member of an Assemblies of God church because that's the best church near me, but in another neighborhood I could easily be Lutheran since my theology is mostly in agreement, and 100% on soteriology. Though I'm in general at least moderately conservative, it'd have to be ELCA: to me, open communion and the ordination of women are important, things I won't compromise on.

Hey LimpBizkitfan: have you checked out the latest Christian rappers? Shai Linne, Trip Lee and some of the others are very good. I like them myself, but metal and punk are more my thing. :D

Hi Izdaari - but with the elca, there is a whole lot more to what they teach than the 2 things you mentioned (open communion and women's ordination, both of which are unbiblical anyway). You also get things like "abortion is a woman's choice", and gay pastors, and also a teaching that the bible is not inerrant. There is much to consider with the elca....just so you know.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Seajoy! Good to see you again!

I'm content to agree to disagree on open communion and women's ordination, both of which AG practices.

I'm pretty social liberal anyway, it's core theology where I'm conservative. And even so, I'm sure many ELCA churches would be too liberal for me. But some might work. Just like most AG churches would be too conservative for me, but mine is a good fit. I'm not leaving my present church unless I move out of range, so I hope I won't have to worry about it for a good long time.

Hello. I just now noticed that I am supposed to check in here. I attended an ELCA church regularly for 5 years, but left for personal reasons that had nothing to do with the ELCA. I have been non-denominational now for quite a while. I guess that my posting has upset a few in this congregational forum, so maybe I should take a long leave of absence after my post here?

In my experience in TCL (I used to post a lot here) they are really decent folks. You should have heard the questions I was asking and debates I was participating in. Did I say debate? :o ... nah ... brawls. :holy:

Welcome. :)

Ummm, hello folks, I managed to miss this part somehow. I guess I would also overlook the communion card even if it bit me in the bum!
Basil, I thank you for your consideration earlier. I hope none of my words ever become too hot topic or appear unloving here. I promise to ask a lot of questions, but if I become too obnoxious, just tell me to bow out.

Hello, I am new and considering joining the Lutheran Church. I believe it's the LCMS although I still don't understand all the branches or the letters..lol Just thought I would stop in and say hello.

Welcome Laurie. Glad to have you here. LCMS stands for Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and is on the confessional end of the spectrum of Lutherans.

Please come to the LCMS/WELS/ELS/LCC part of the forum and ask us questions regarding "Missouri" We are always eager to be of assistance.

Welcome to TCL, Laurie, regardless what synod you are considering joining. We are getting ready to officially join our ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) church. I hope you find your new church spiritually fulfilling and uplifting in their fellowship.
