Doesn't sound fruitful imo.
I guess I would tell them their devotion is a bit misdirected.

We would pray to God for our friends salvation. Remember that we see our relationship with God in prayer as being outside of temporal time, and as such our prayers can be effectual even after an event in temporal time.
