A double standard irrelevant to the topic of this thread, honoring traitors who made war on the US by naming things in the US after them, and not one I have made. That their war was based on the corner stone of race based slavery is secondary.

Since the other poster couldn't provide any info to the contrary, I'll tell you I think you're wrong. I can read the news, I know what the reasons are.

There was a Catholic university whose mascot was The Crusaders. A couple of years after the 9/11 attacks a Muslim group produced some crocodile tears and the school changed its mascot. Do you remember in 2020 in England when statues of the likes of Cecil Rhodes and Winston Churchill were being pulled down and/or vandalized? Then later, buildings named after them had their names changed. Were Rhodes and Churchill ever accused of being traitors? Quite the opposite. You could hardly find two more patriotic Englishmen.

So I know you and the others are smart enough to know the Confederacy stuff is not about treason. What I don't know is why you're being disingenuous about it.

Nice. history is history and we can't change it all we can do is learn from it.

History is currently being made.

It would be good to have public schools without Confederate names. I can't imagine how it would feel to be a black student going to a school named after a slave owner, who fought against USA folk in the hope to keep the right to own blacks as slaves.

It seems the name of the school is a huge slap in the face of black USA folk, goading them, taunting them, telling them that they don't matter, that their history never happened.

I think it would be great to name the schools after native Americans that were defending their land from the invading British or rename the schools after many of the great Black Americans who progressed rights for blacks in USA.

I should have added if we had a civil war today we would no longer be the USA. We would be the DSA vs RSA.

That would likely to be many countries or collective of states that are Western in nature, with freedom and democracy and healthcare that are pretty much in line with most other well off Western nations.

Vs a Theocracy, where gays will be criminalised, Christianity will be forced on the population, Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims driven out. Immigration shut down, no asylum process, no abortions. It will be a white Christian Nationalist sanctuary and haven (heaven) if you are white and Christian and all in on this Christian Nationalist thing a.k.a. MAGA.
