Violence Officially Redefined As ‘Literally Anything At All That Makes You Feel The Slightest Discomfort’

violence-696x394.png

SPRINGFIELD, MA—Merriam-Webster updated the entry for the word “violence” on its online dictionary Monday, changing the meaning of the term from “the use of physical force so as to injure, abuse, damage, or destroy” to “literally anything at all that makes you feel the slightest discomfort.”

The new definition is broad enough to cover everything from committing a violent microaggression to failing to use a trigger warning when talking about conservative ideas.

“We found that people weren’t thinking of grave injustices like someone refusing to agree with you on everything or a store not carrying your size pants as violence,” a rep for the site said. “Violence isn’t just people literally attacking you—it’s things like looking at you funny or using the wrong pronoun. So we had to make the change.”

LOL.

Jokes aside, it's a very dangerous concept. It's a step closer to wholescale tolerance of evil (including evil people) or even crime / injustice.

So when someone does something wrong or evil, it would be "violence" to feel any discomfort towards them....DUH!

Unfortunately, this joke has a real life counterpart called "Political Correctness".

The bully rightfully smacked the other kid for sitting in his chair as it made that bully feel uncomfortable to have someone sitting in what he considered to be his chair. Being a bully is an act of righteous indignation in response to an act of the newly defined violence unwittingly perpetrated by someone that is not a bully. The bully him/her self cannot be accused of violence as their violence is a response not an aggression. Also Humpty says that glory means a nice knock - down argument. Now all we need is a word that means the use of physical force so as to injure, abuse, damage or destroy. How about the word Antifa? As in the sentence " They used Antifa on me for my violence of using an incorrect pronoun."

Political Correctness makes me uncomfortable , thereby it is violence against the righteous

That's the irony I wonder about ...

If someone is upset at me for not agreeing with them - are they not behaving the same way against me by not agreeing with me? And so on.

Some people seem to be losing the ability to look at things objectively and rationally. Instead they are being channeled to emotional reactionisn.

Your being too kind by characterizing it as mere emotional reactionism. It is the use of complete irrationality as a weapon of intimidation. One can do whatever one pleases if one simply blames the victim for one's hate filled and hateful behavior. " How dare you have an opinion that I disagree with." only works one way as it is assumed that your opinion must be inferior and worthy of contempt since it is not held by the one that has decided that he/she is always correct. As he/she is self admittedly infallible and has become an adherent of the one and only true ideology and is strict in maintaining orthodoxy within that ideology, no one else has anything worth hearing and to attempt to express a view not in line with total ideological orthodoxy is an attack against everything good and can be taken as the moral equivalent of violence against him/her.

The timeliness of this news update is either extremely early or extremely late. I can't tell which since it's no where near April 1st ..............................................

But goodness gracious if a person finds himself/herself in a state that is even in the least bit uncomfortable!

Well you are right that it's a bullying tactic used widely, but I was actually thinking more of the people that are just following along without really realizing how they are being shaped. Though some unfortunately will mature into the tactics you describe ...

Has anybody else here noticed it's from a parody site?? :):):)
I'm guessing we all did - it was mentioned in the OP? But it's good to point it out just in case.

As for my part, I usually avoid such topics, but just commenting on general trends and some behavior. :)

Yes, it was. It's just that given some of the reactions to it, it's possible not everyone took that in. :)
That's always possible. :)

Like I said, it's probably good to mention just in case. :)

That's the 'irony' of the Babylon Bee satire site. Their satire is so close to home many (even Facebook) end up thinking it is real.

You mean Marine Mammal Bias. Sharks are deemed scary cold blooded sea creatures wanting to bite off your limbs. Whereas dolphins, Orcas, and Sea Lions are friendly cuddly creatures aquariums make in stuffed animals kids can bring to bedtime.
