This is an example of knowledge. It is NOT the top priority.
We have antibiotics, we use it. Earlier people did not, they could lived much more meaningfully than we do.

Wow.

Just...…. Wow.

How does one respond to that?

The practice of Christianity will solve more problems than the practice of science. This should be obvious. But as I pointed out, it's too late. Even the best efforts of Christians won't be enough to save us in the end.
So you would rather live in medieval London then in 21st century London?

Here it is again:
Consider the statements "I value knowledge" versus "I worship knowledge".

What is the practical difference?

Knowledge is a good thing to have. vs.
Knowledge is the best thing to have.

I don't think it is that hard.

Not when the point is to understand biological phenomena, off course.
You won't learn about how DNA works from the bible.

Forget about biology for a second.
Suppose you want to build a space probe that needs to get into orbit around Mars.
What's your best way to accomplish this?
Studying physics and engineering? or studying the bible?

Will studying the bible give you ANY practical or theoretical help in building that space probe? Will it make any kind of a difference, to build that space probe?

Of course not. But should we be going to Mars in the first place?

Of course not.

Yet, in medieval London the practice of Christianity was pretty much the only game in town.
Science (as in the method) didn't even exist back then..

So, what's that about?
It's the practice of science that has build 21st century London...………

You said that the practice of christianity "will solve more problems" then the practice of science.

How come then, that the practice of science has solved so many problems of medieval London, which in turn made 21st century London possible?

Maybe now is a good time to clarify your statement.
Give me an example of a "problem" that was solved by christianity and in a better way then science could have done it or has done it.

But should we be going to Mars in the first place?

I would say, yes.
First, because we'll learn a lot about the solar system. Things we can't learn from down here. Even things about our own planet.

Second, maybe you should review all the technology and knowledge that was made possible by space travel. You might be surprised.

But in any case.... what does that have to do with anything?
How do projects like traveling to Mars have a negative effect on human society?
Why would it be better to not travel to Mars?

Like my Dad used to tell us kids, "You can go out and play after you finish your work."

Also note that I didn't say Christianity solves problems. It is the practice of Christianity that solves problems. Few 'Christians' practice Christianity.

Also, it is often the moral imperative (Christianity in practice) that utilizes science in solving problems. It can be a great partnership. Science often 'solves' problems that never should have arisen in the first place if people weren't so evil.

See my post #72 (unedited).

That was your second post, after I pointed out that pinguïns and ostriches have wings and don't fly.

Here's your original post:

It's like the concept of design. Science says there is no purposeful design in nature. This doesn't make sense to me as I see design all over the place; like birds wings are designed not only to fly 'straight and level' but to do some pretty complicated aerial acrobatics as well.

I can only repeat my questions, since you didn't answer any of them:

1. give an example of a problem that was solved "by the practice of christianity" in a better way then "the practice of science" could have solved it or has solved it.

2. How do projects like traveling to Mars have a negative effect on human society? Why would it be better to not travel to Mars?

It is implicit that 'flightless' birds aren't included in comments about birds that do.

No. I was presented with the process, the facts and the evidence. At no point was I asked or expected to "just believe it".

Of course not. That's the way formal education operates.

1. give an example of a problem that was solved "by the practice of christianity" in a better way then "the practice of science" could have solved it or has solved it.

That's easy. Millions of Christians are morally bound to not do evil behaviors. No preventative scientific method is better at doing this. This represents the largest, albeit passive, benefit to society one can imagine.

Of course if one is benefitting from the suffering of others this is unimportant, and probably counterproductive.

2. How do projects like traveling to Mars have a negative effect on human society? Why would it be better to not travel to Mars?

I believe we have more important needs here on earth. When we address them then we can go play among the stars.

So is every religious believer in the world.

I believe we have more important needs here on earth. When we address them then we can go play among the stars.

That's just your belief.
