"According to a report received recently by a native mission leader, over 100 tribal Christians are currently serving sentences in Vietnamese prisons, enduring torture and hunger for refusing to renounce Christ. The communist government denies any persecution of religious groups, claiming to grant freedom to all, yet the language of the ordinance regulating religious groups carefully defines "all" as only those organizations approved by the government. Christian tribal people, because they were said to be allies of the U.S. during the Vietnam War, are particularly subjected to persecution. In prison they work 10 hours a day for two small bowls of rice, and many of the families do not know where their loved ones are.

Pray those suffering for Jesus will experience His loving presence with them. Pray God will give the families of imprisoned believers the comfort and peace that only He can give. Pray the Holy Spirit will move in power to grow the church in Vietnam."


Praise God for His presence in the prisons. He is faithful. So wonderful. and he is mighty to save. Let's call on Him to save those imprisoned for following Him.

Under the former South Vietnamese government the people enjoyed freedom of religion and other freedoms. When communism or nazism or any other form of dictatorship conquers a free nation by force, religious freedom is the first to go.

Dear Sharp,

The Diem government and successive governments in South Vietnam up until the fall of Saigon to the Communists were essentially Roman Catholic. Buddhists were persecuted, which is why some of the monks immolated themselves in protest. Religious freedom was in short supply, regardless of what the government may have stated,

Regarding our wonderful US Army in support of our South Vietnamese allies, I shall relate a story about a unit from the 11th Armored Cavalry. This one particular unit looted a Buddhist Temple in a village, and strapped the Buddha statue to the glacis plate of one of their M 113 armored personnel carriers. The local people were infuriated at this desecration and looting. On the following day they met this particular unit in force and inflicted heavy casualties on the Americans.

I do agree with your second to last statement. Regarding your last statement, it is good to keep in mind that all militaries are a neccessary evil, and their ultimate purpose is to kill real human beings.
