  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Videographers out there?

I've decided to refocus my efforts from still photography to video for the upcoming flying season and was wondering if anyone in here has some experience shooting video at least semi-professionally. After viewing some of my videos, a local WWII aircraft museum has asked that I assist in an oral history video project for vets that visit their facility and would like some tips/advice for doing such work.

Right now I am shooting with a 1lb Canon VIXIA HG20 camcorder. In the future I would like to upgrade to a larger shoulder-mounted design such as the Sony HXR-MC2000U.

Any tips?

That is a decent camera but there are better choices out there for still photographers. Check out the nex-fs100. The huge advantage to still photogs is the 35mm sensor and extremely shallow flange focal distance will allow you to mount your already existing SLR - DSLR lens collection on this camera (adapters already exist or can be made for just about any 35mm lens mount system out there.) The 35mm sensor gives you much better depth of field options and it is MUCH more sensitive then the sensor in the 2000. The sensor in the 2000 is only 1/4 inch! (half inch is considered dicey and this is a quarter of that size). Also the 2000 cannot shoot 1080 progressive frame rates and that should be a consideration. If you just absolutely cannot step up to the nex-fs100 then you can get just about a good a picture on a sony consumer camcorder for 500 bucks as you can get on the 2000. (albeit you won't get the pro mic inputs, etc.) I would consider it a waste of money to buy the 2000 if the fs100 was within reach. (if you get it without the lens that shaves of some $$$ if you plan to use your existing lenses).
