  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

John 6 occurs before the Lord's Supper is instituted.
And let's not leave out this part of the passage...

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (Joh 6:63)

I seem to be fighting Orthodox and RCs singlehandedly. Hehe.

IMO, that's because the thread is not worth the fight. No one has ever identified a verse "that Protestants can't Accept," and the poster who created the thread was just a hit and run participant in his own thread.

Therefore, the rest of us have been willing to let a fruitless discussion "die with dignity." You should too. You made many worthwhile contributions here, but it's time to move on.

Isaiah 64:6 (New International Version)

6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts
are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

*****Catholicism teaches works as salvation. But here in Isaiah, it's clear that nothing we can do will gain the acceptance of God.

1 Corinthians 3 (New International Version)

10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

****Verse 15 says ...He himself will be saved. How can a man be saved if his works are burnt up?? Because the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ is what saves him.

Read throughout the NT and you will see that it's God's gift of Christ is what saves and not any kinds of works.

Matthew 27:51 (New International Version)

51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split.

****** Verse 51 shows us that the curtain that people had to stay behind while the priest was conversing with God was torn. No longer do we need a priest.

....So here are some verses for you to look at and pray on also. God Bless.

I believe the Lord's supper is taken in rememberence of him. The bread symbolizes his body which was broken for us and the wine symbolizes the shedding of his blood, which was sacrificed at calvary....Jesus was always teaching his disciples and it was by no accident that it was at the time of the passover that he wanted to have the passover meal with them and to commenmoratate his death burial and resurrection in the new covenent by his breaking of bread and drinking the wine. The disciples already knew by the sacrificing of the passover lamb and the eating of it's flesh yearly that they did this in atonement for sin. I don't think they realized what Jesus was doing at the time until his resurrection. To actually eat of his flesh and drink of his blood is not what he meant.....John 6:63 The Spirit of God is what gives life the flesh counts for nothing. It also says in John 6 to eat of this bread (Jesus) you will live forever... Do you take this Spiritually or literally?
