While I agree with you I think the distinction goes miles over the heads of most Sola Scriptura adherents. I think the caricature IS the most common belief, sadly.

You're not wrong.

But I also think it's worse than that. What we are seeing today isn't even Nuda Scriptura, but rather the mere assertion of oneself as the chief authority. It's goes beyond Nuda Scriptura to Ego Solus, the self alone.

Exactly.

How you understand Sola Scriptura and how I understand Dei Verbum are a lot closer than your and their views.

I love Sola Scriptura. Because of it I get to read novel interpretations all the time.

You say you do not interpret Scripture. That you get it straight from the Holy Spirit. But your interpretation is actually backwards. There is no custom among Christians of Paul's time for women NOT having their heads covered at prayer. But you say this information comes direct from the Holy Spirit. Considering you got it backwards, are you still claiming the Spirit of Truth told you this? I know, I know, Sola Scriptura means never having to admit a mistake, but in this case I think everyone else can see it.

You wrote "I love Sola Scriptura". It's time for truth or consequence for you.

I challenge you to provide a verse to support your writing of "There is no custom among Christians of Paul's time for women NOT having their heads covered at prayer"; in other words, after eliminating your double negative, I am telling you that you cannot come up with any verse that indicates there is a custom during the time of Paul for women to cover their heads with a veil during prayer.

From the Apostle Paul's writing, the assemblies of God did NOT have the custom of women covering their head while praying (1 Corinthians 11:16).

AND, JUST LIKE YOUR FEMALE DOMINATOR COHORT @Ohorseman, YOU COMPLETELY DISREGARDED THAT PAUL IS IN ACCORD WITH LORD JESUS WHO TELLS US BELIEVERS NOT TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT WE WEAR (MATTHEW 6:24-34).

The Lord Jesus was asked by one of His disciples how to pray. The Lord’s instruction did not include “men shave your hair off” nor “men cut your long hair first” nor “women make certain your veil is properly fastened” nor “you women without veils, put your veils on first”. None of that. Lord Jesus taught “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come'” (Luke 11:2, but here is the more complete passage Luke 11:1-4).

Lord Jesus repeatedly says it’s about the inside – the outside shows the fruit of the Spirit inside – He said good works seen by others glorify God, for example with “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16) and “If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also” (Matthew 5:40). Behold that Lord Jesus expresses the interpersonal communication component here, too. Powerful!

Godly modesty and humility are blessed gifts of the Holy Spirit of God upon the children of God (Galatians 5:22-23)!

The deeds of the flesh by people who are not heirs of the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21) include idolatry of the body (immodesty) as well as fleshy church pastors imposing man-made rules upon other people such as female veiling.

So what of the millions of African women whose hair will not grow long?

Hmm, I didn't write that women cannot veil.

I've known many women with African heritage as well as from the African continent with long hair.

A female believer gets to rejoice in the Word of God (John 1:1, John 1:14) that
Paul's writing that the assemblies of God have no custom of women covering their heads with a veil (1 Corinthians 11:1-16) is in accord with Lord Jesus, Who tells us believers not to worry about what we wear (Matthew 6:24-34).

The Lord Jesus was asked by one of His disciples how to pray. The Lord’s instruction did not include “men shave your hair off” nor “men cut your long hair first” nor “women make certain your veil is properly fastened” nor “you women without veils, put your veils on first”. Thanks for sharing. This beautiful photo of women covering their heads suggests that the service was in the right order, according to the instructions of holy scripture. Head covering in the service is about proper worship and order, not fashion, or some concern for daily wear. 1 Corinthians 11 teaches us this.

5. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.
13.
Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
16. But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

Clearly Paul writes that "the churches of God" followed this worship practice and women did not pray or prophesy with her head uncovered. The church in Corinth was out of line. They were not worshipping according to the way they were taught and even their sharing of the bread and wine (the Lord's Supper) was out of line. And so Paul led by the Holy Spirit corrects them in his letter and describes proper worship.

To me the most interesting verse is verse 10, quoted below.

10. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

According to what is written, the covering on her head is a symbol for the Angels. Both the Angels of Light as well as the dark. Remember, 1/3 of the angels & satan were thrown down from Heaven. Covering her head a woman this way shows herself to be obedient to the order and hierarchy of God. She identifies and testifies to be on the side of the Lord. ALSO, she stands against the dark & fallen angels. When a woman is disobedient, how do the dark angels, the demons, respond? Certainly they like it.

It's been a whole day, and your mouth has been stopped a day (Romans 3:19). See the below.

In your reference to I Cor. 11:16 you overlooked the full reference there; see I Cor. 11:13-15. Read the full thought given, friend. It is showing that a woman must NOT glory herself before God. The long hair is HER glory, and that must be covered before God. We can build a doctrine we like by perverting God's Word; and that is not a wise thing to be doing, friend.
