first of all, in Lev 11; 10, it is talking about all the animals that live in the water that dont have fins and scales. NOT BIRDS. The birds start in verse 13. and in verse 18 that you mentioned, it doesnt talk about swans and pelicans, it talks about the white owl, the jackdaw, and the carrion vulture.

primarly, the birds that are unclean are predominatly the scavengers.

I understand what you are saying about the veggie meat and cheese. i totally agree.
You and nixxnaxx are using the NKJV.. Check the KJV.

Right, that is my understanding too, Happy. To me there is a reason the birds are dealt with from verse 13 to 19. Verse 9 to 12 with the animals that dwell in (within) the water.

Hmmm, so depending on the version, the story changes? There is another forum I visit and a member is adamant that the KJV is the one blessed by God, and none other. Let me get the KJV and see.
Sorry, I haven't welcomed you to the forum yet. Welcome nixxnazz!

Satrei,

you are correct. in the kjv in verse 18 it does say the swan, the pelican and the gier eagle. but that still doesnt say anything about the 2 birds we are discussing. as far as i see it, God didn't say anything about them and i visited a Jewish website on the issue and the 2 birds (the goose and i cant remember the other off the to top of my head, sorry) are clean. they dont fit the characterization of scavenger birds.

* i remember now, the goose and the duck.

I think you will find the Adventist position is that they are waterfowl.

yeah, you are right, some do drink coffee and drink caffienated beverages. they should be ashamed of themselves. they are not living up to the light they know and is giving mix signals to everyone about what adventists are and do.

A BIG AMEN to that Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :preach:

Thanks a lot, PaleHorse. Lots of spirited discussions here, I see. I like that. Pretty cool to have a forum for ourselves to talk and debate and learn.
Yeah, sometimes they become a bit too spirited as I'm sure you've noticed. ;)
Thanks for joining in the fun!

Cheese is not a good food. It is not that it is unclean but not good for us the way it is made and sold today.
Given the amount of cheese you can find in the average Adventist potluck it is also obvious that most do not know that the enzyme used to start the process of making cheese most likely was extracted from the stomachs of pigs.

I don't see a lot of cheese at our pot lucks.

But boy, you sure do learns something new every day. I just found out recently that marshmellows have pig products in them....and the vegan marshmallows are really expensive. Grrr.

And a lot of contact lens cleaners have pork enzymes in them...talk about a shocking development!

yeah, manufacturors try to sneak it in everywhere. Why, I just dont understand. That means we need to read, read, read those labels out there and educate ourselves what many of those long, techinical words that they use are, so we can know if that product we are looking at has something in there we choose not to eat. it is a pain though sometimes, sometimes they dont list the source of the gelatin, or whatever, and it is up to us to know that the usual source is. Education is key!

But if you are interested, i will try to get it to you.

What do diabetics do if the insulin they use is made from swine? Without the pig, we'd have never had insulin to begin with. The insulin I take now, is "human insulin", that's what the doctor called it. Does that mean it DOESN'T come from pigs? (I hope)?

I don't know why this popped into my head, but it did. I don't want to ingest anything from the swine family, but would medicine be excluded?
