God's original plan for his creation regarding food is listed in Genesis 1

29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

do you have any bible texts about why you should eat (mostly) vegetarian food

The original diet for man didn't contain meat for two possible reasons. One could have been for health reasons because animal products cause many health issues and the other reason could be because in the garden there was no death and in order to eat meat you would have to kill. Killing was not part of God's original plan for His creation but even though killing now for food is permissible God has made a distinction between clean and unclean. When God told Noah to bring the animals into the ark the clean were to be taken in by sevens but the unlean by twos. If Noah ate even one unclean animal that breed would be extinct from Noah's time on.

In the beginning, there is no death. So the original diet is vegetarianism.

After the flood, God allowed meat into the diet to reduce the life span of sin of mankind. Man's life span rapidly reduced from almost a thousands to a few dozen years.

Genesis 9
3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, ...

Daniel and 3 Hebrews were prepared of vegetarian diet to stand a great crisis.

The health message is given to those who are preparing to stand the final crisis.

In the new heaven and the new earth, death and decay will be no more. So those love the flesh meat and corrupt wine will have to change their habit to prepare to enter into to new earth.

skipping ahead slightly, do you go to hell if you eat meat or drink wine? sounds so since you say you must change your habit to prepare to enter the new earth.

Do you think Adam and Eve lost it because they ate something they shouldn't eat?

Would the 3 young Hebrews have been able to stand tall against the image of Babylon had they compromised on the diet first?

It's obedience issue. The bible doesn't say you shouldn't take cocaine.

This is the most reasonable post in this entire thread and the most accurate.

Saying anything more than this is reading too much into the texts.

Are you saying God did not create fruit to be eaten?

I think it was more the act and not that which was eaten that caused the problem. Many times an act, which is normally permissible, now becomes unpermissible because of something God is doing at the time.

We see this in Daniel 1:8-16. Daniel didn't drink the wine or eat the meat not because it was forbidden in general by God, but rather because God was trying bring Daniel to the attention of the King for a greater purpose later. As a matter of fact, we see later on in the Bible that Daniel did eat in fact meat and drank wine.

Daniel 10:3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

Cocaine and marijuana use...

God tells us not to be intoxicated of which cocaine and marijuana use brings intoxication.

Intoxication: to affect temporarily with diminished physical and mental control by means of alcoholic liquor, a drug, or another substance, especially to excite or stupefy with liquor.

A thought that comes to mind for me, is the idea in Isaiah, that "the lion shall eat straw like the ox." (Isa 11:7)

Others here have referred to the original diet in Eden. It seems reasonable to me to say that God designed the human body for that diet. Of course the human body has deteriorated over time, but the body's original design remains basically unchanged.

In the new world, the Lion, and every other species, will be vegetarian.
Mankind's first, and last state will be vegetarian. Doesn't it seem reasonable that the in-between phase would be the same?

When was the last time a fruit bearing tree died when you plucked its fruit? Have you ever grown herbs? You don't kill them by thinning their 'fruit'. Same goes for nut bearing trees...

I know you are trying to be cute, but your answers are not well thought out.

Here's a well thought out answer!

I was a vegan for 5 years and vegetarian for 10. My boyfriend pointed out to me that it was not good for me to be a food snob and think I was "too good" to eat meat. I did sort of feel like that.
So I recently started eating some meat again. I started with fish and just this week actually ate some chicken and turkey.
I feel good. I choose to eat a mostly vegetarian diet for a few reasons, but I am glad to be shook of the restrictions I had placed on myself that were not commanded of me from God.
If someone offers me an items with meat or dairy in it I will not longer have to be rude and decline and act like I am too good for it. :)

Ah so it's like unfertilized eggs, milk, cheese ect.

Problem is the plants you eat DO die.
The Fruit you eat can't grow, the cells die, the plant cells die, death results from eating. Spin it however you wish, by saying the Whole Plant doesn't die, but the cells still do, the parts you eat still do. What you're eating dies.

Most things that man eats were once living.

Wheat dies, carrots die, beetroot, broccoli, potatoes, ... ... .... Lambs, chickens, fish, ... ... ...

Why would a caring designer do that? Why didn't he make it so we could, say, photosynthesise?

I was a detective for many years. I've heard the same reasoning coming from people who became drug addicts because they wanted to fit in with the crowd. Take some time to visit hospitals to see the outcome of what we eat. Don't quit eating meat to fit in when your heart is telling you something different.

Now I'm not saying it's a sin to eat meat but if you can go without it it would be much better for you in the long run. To be a vegtarian and then go back to eating meat is like someone who quit smoking and then went back to it.
