Actually I don't know why I asked that, because the big deal seems to be more over Vance wanting to ditch them.
I have no idea what you're talking about. All the complaints in this thread have been about how Vance and his family were "threatened" and "put in danger" by a peaceful protest.
However the fist line of the first article is:

"The serenity of President Barack Obama's Hawaiian vacation was rattled"
As was the serenity of Vance's Vermont ski trip. That's what protests do - they're disruptive. If they weren't, no one would pay any attention to them. However, disrupting the serenity of a public figure's vacation is neither violent, nor intolerant, nor threatening. Nor is it a cause for outrage.

They're saying "go ski in Russia" so I'm saying go move to Ukraine, since they hate the US administration so much. Like with Kim Jung Un, if Trump is amicable or aggressive towards Putin, they'll complain and vilify either way. And since they hate Trump and like Zelenskyy, they should move to Ukraine. Seeing as how many of them said they're going to leave the US, I say bon voyage.

It is interesting to me how you re-frame any dissent as "hate".

Should the people who equated Obama or Gretchen Whitmer with Hitler move to Ukraine too? Because they didn't seem to like the then administration either. Or does it only counts when your side feels the heat?

You have no idea how dangerous a pancard with some text on it can be. Masked people with guns are fine. But never wave a pancard.

Must be in another thread somewhere.

And you're saying the left was completely okay with what happened to Obama and his family while on vacation. No complaints or criticism at all.

ozso said:
If the same thing happened with Obama and his wife and children when they were little, do you really honestly think the left would've been okay with it?

Sure. Although since they weren't praising Zelenskyy, anywhere would work. See I'm not on the side of anyone who equates the President to Hitler. Also I liked Obama for the most part and disliked Bush for the most part. And pretty much all I had against Biden is he was too cognitively impaired.

Must be - though, if that's what he did, that kind of puts paid to the idea that his family was somehow "in danger."

I'm sure some people somewhere were unhappy about it, but I don't recall anyone talking about how the President's family were in danger, or how the protesters hated him, or any of the other hysterical utterances we've seen in this thread - and if they had voiced those opinions to me, I would have said the same things I'm saying to you. I certainly didn't have a problem with it - even though I disagreed with the content of what they were saying.

I'm not asking you to be "completely okay" with people protesting Vance though. You're entitled to your opinion of what is and isn't appropriate behavior. What I object to is the characterization of a peaceful protest, of Americans exercising their 1st Amendment rights, as somehow inherently threatening, hateful, intolerant, or dangerous.

And you have to admit that it's pretty ironic that Vance ran from his constituents when he literally just castigated European leaders for it.

How would he know if they would become a danger or not ahead of time? He was probably mostly concerned about it scaring or upsetting his 7 and 4 year old kids.

But you don't know what people on CF and other forums and social media were saying about it at the time. Or what all was said overall at the time.

I doubt that would have happened if he wasn't with his little ones. Most people call that sort of thing shielding children. And most parents do that before seeing if things get unpleasant or not.

“Vance and his family later skied on one side of a mountain to avoid crowds, but protesters gathered there as well. “
How is that tolerant?
Should Americans tolerate extortion on the international stage? Friday was the nadir of American diplomacy. Can they stoop any lower? Shudder.

JD Vance's visit to Vermont ski resort interrupted by pro-Ukraine demonstrators after Zelenskyy exchange

Vance, who brought his family to Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont, was greeted by a half-mile gauntlet of protesters holding pro-Ukraine signs Saturday. There appeared to be hundreds in the crowd.

The protesters carried signs calling Vance "Nazi scum," accusing him of being a "traitor" and telling him to "go ski in Russia."

Fox News was also told Vance and his family planned to stay at a four-star inn near the resort, but they moved to an undisclosed location after seeing the ruckus.
From the OP article:
A source also told Fox News that the Vances initially intended to stay at a four-star inn near the resort, but that they moved to an undisclosed location instead, though that decision preceded the protests.
