Search for Baskania (B is often pronounced V in Greek)

That had a lot of info. Thanks for the link, was a good read.

I ask for the prayer because when i go to Greece my grandmother often whispers it. My mom says it also, but rarely.

So its a pagan prayer and not Christian? Or atleast a pagan practice?

I'm not really sure, we have a few native Greeks here at TAW, perhaps they'll drop in and give us the scoop.

I only skimmed through that article and got sick. :sigh:

Anyway, I've never heard of Vaskania (=envy) Prayer before, but there's nothing wrong to pray to be protected from the demons' envy and from falling into this vice.

Here is what goarch.com has to say about it:

I personally do not believe in the evil eye. It is just an overly popularized form of the blame game, so people can believe that nothing bad can happen in their life unless somebody else was the cause of it. ie. Oh My gardenia died after that woman told me how lovely it was, she must have given it the evil eye. (PS that is an actualy example from somebody I know in real life  )

Also little blue beads, and blue eyes, are totally unacceptable. They look nice, but if you actually believe they ward off the evil eye well :sorry:
