In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

On a side subject - the aversion people have to condoms is just weird to me...lol

Maybe it's because my mom scared the heck out of me when I was a kid (heck - she discussed AIDS with me when it first started coming to light back in 1982 and I was 12 years old). Therefore - prior to actually trying to start to have a kid - I think I had sex w/o a condom maybe 5 times my entire life.

...and that includes an 8 year relationship/previous marriage...all the time I was dating...etc.

I remember one girl I was dating. She was on the pill - and knew my history (never w/o a condom - even in marriage - limited partner history/etc). She offered unprotected sex...and said "You're one of the only guys I've ever met that I would say that to."

My response? "No thanks. The condom isn't there for your protection - it's there for mine. I know where I've been. I only know where you've told me that you've been."

Needless to say - that relationship didn't last very long...lol

But - I guess due to my familiarity with them and how it was just normal par for the course - sex w/o a condom is actually what took some getting used to. Heck - I wouldn't object to going back to using them now.

I think you're an exception to the rule, Ezoo lol. Kinda sad that you were sort of fear-conditioned into thinking this way, though. For me, nothing kills the passion faster than having to fumble around with something like that. Being able to just tear into your spouse without hesitation or interruption... umm, YES please.

It's led to funny moments though.

I remember one girl I was dating. We were like 2-3 dates into it...and I took her out to this nice Italian restaurant. We had a good dinner, good conversation, etc... When the time came to pay the bill - for some weird reason I had difficulty getting my wallet out of my jacket.

So I'm struggling around with it, trying to get the wallet out, and somehow in that motion I ended up getting the wallet out but inadvertently flung the condom that was inside across the table straight into her lap.

Was kinda mortified at the moment - but shrugged it off and said "I'm an optimist."

She was like..."you should try and be a realist." lol

AGREED!

Thanks everyone. Today the pain is a lot more intense. Just on the right side the left is still pain free.

It may seem like a minor procedure, but it takes time to heal, bro. Those are tender parts and they've just been seriously abused lol. Take it easy, keep the Tylenol handy, pamper yourself for a while :)

FWIW I hope I don't come across like a really crass woman, sitting here talking about this stuff lol. It's just because, when you get married, and your hubby goes through this, you see everything and it takes on a very non-sexual, non-awkward angle. And being with him through the procedure, through the recovery, and through the complications he experienced... well, let's just say I wouldn't be here at all if I hadn't been through it firsthand with him.

Like Inkachu says, give it some time....the first day or two, I used a bag of frozen peas and corn and did a couple of TV series marathons on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Same here about condoms. They don't feel natural and have a higher tendency to cause UTIs.

Is the pain of the vasectomy after equal to anything you can think of? Like a broken bone? Paper cut? 3rd degree burn on hand? I tried watching a video of it being done and couldn't watch it once they pulled the "ducts" (as I call them) out of the scrotum a bit to cut them. The fact your awake only makes my fear of having one done worse. Oh and having to feel a needle go in to numb you. Do they stick it in your "part" to numb it?

I would seriously consider just being knocked out for it because the fear is driving me nuts of being awake.

I wouldn't want to be awake for something like that, either. You're perfectly within your rights to ask to be put to sleep for the procedure. If your surgeon objects for some reason, find another surgeon.

I didn't feel anything during the procedure.....it was the needle that numbed everything that hurt a little, but not bad....not much different than getting a shot on the arm, just a tad more sensitive.

The pain after was just a discomfort, nothing sharp or debilitating.

I know most insurances don't cover the cost of anesthesia and if you're paying out of pocket, that's a lot of extra cash to put out for the additional comfort in my opinion.

It's not pain. It's discomfort. Think more along the lines of "overthrowing" your arm with a baseball, or having a pulled muscle.

Kinda like this.

I don't think that "most insurances" will refuse to cover the cost of anesthesia... do you have any sources to back that up? My husband has plain ol' Cigna and he was given general anesthesia without having to ask for it. His was done in 2011.

For the guys in this thread who've already had it done; can I ask how long ago your procedures were? I'm wondering if the "awake for it" trend is something from years past that is less common currently. I know when my dad had his (maaaany years ago), he was awake for it.

The only source I have is my doctor.....he told me insurances don't cover that, but no other data, sorry.

I just had mine done last year.

Actual anesthesiology is pretty serious, and most doctors don't want to do that for outpatient procedures. Way more expensive, and way more risky.

Mine was done almost 2 years ago, and I didn't even ask if I could be put under.

That said, I have broken my back and have had major surgery/recovery, and my pain tolerance and refusal to be medicated are a little higher than a lot of people's.

Would you have opted to be asleep if you'd had the choice, Taxreliever?

He gave me the choice, but since I was paying out of pocket (my insurance neither covered the procedure, nor the anesthesia), I quickly refused and am glad I did afterwards....anesthesia in itself has it's own risks.

I think I would have refused even if my insurance covered it.....I had spoken to about a half dozen of my family and friends that had personally gone through it so I was confident that the sting of the first shot would be tolerable and it was.
